If you're wanting an herbal remedy, try using black cohosh. I have friends that have said it helps tremendously. There are things your physician can prescribe for you that should also help. Wear light colored, less restrictive clothing to help minimize the extent of the hot flashes. I hope these ideas help you. I intend to use all of the above if necessary when I start having hot flashes(getting close to that age myself & I have been working on what to do when I get them).

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for as short a time as you can manage (prescription required), then Evening Primrose supplements (supermarkets & health food shops), tofu, and some say flaxseed, others soy and linseed bread, soy drink on cereal. A personal $2 battery powered fan (keep spare batteries), and a $15 desk fan will help.

a small plug-in fan to take to work and use by the bedside at home. A wet wash cloth and ice cubes in a zip-lock baggie.
