I know everyone is trying to answer your question, but they are literally trying to answer the question which is the wrong answer.

The answer is this: Do not get in any car with someone who has drugs on them. Especially do not get in the car if this person is driving or if anyone else under the influence is driving. If this is your car, set the ground rules that there will be no drugs or alcohol in the car at any time. If these friends with drugs try to pressure you or will not listen to your demands, then they are not friends so move on. If you are close to your friend who is holding/using/selling? drugs then try to help him/her. Direct them to some kind of counceling so the two of you can remain friends for along time. So, you will not have to visit your friend in jail or worse, to visit his headstone.

You should not do something simply because it may or may not be legal, but you should not do it because you know in your heart right from wrong. If you didn't know that drugs in a motor vehicle was bad, then you wouldn't have asked the question. So, take pride in the fact that you came looking for reassurance to do the right thing.

Do not give into peer pressure and keep the faith!

well it depends were you are, usa or uk?
but both are similar,
if the car is not yours, you are ok.
but be warned you can get done for it,
there was a case were a girlfriend of a drug dealer got arrested, the dealer got 2 years (he was abble to barter the police by giving evidenve to drug gangs) how ever she was sent to jail for 10 years, being only 17 years of age.
so do be carefull.
just be awear. if the police pull you over rule 1, get rid of all that smoke, (smoke a cigaret, or spray something)
the police must have a reason to search your car or you. a hunch is not enough! if the officer is taking his time, ask him if you are under arrest?, then ask him have you a fine, and if not imform him that you are now leaving. he can do nothing about it!
if the officer searches you or the car, and finds drugs. in court you can use impopper proceedure. that is to say he had no wright to search you car, and you case could be thrown out.

and more questions feel free to ask

not necessarily. If the drugs are under your seat or in your possession then yes most likely you will. steer clear of people who do drugs okay? It will get you no where in life I promise you that. If you are high you will go to jail but if you are with someone who has the drugs and you don't then they will question you and let you go most likely.

Well yes as anybody in the car can say "they are not mine". But even if you then get a lawyer and get off of it once the judge sorts it out....... the fact that you were arrested on suspicion or charged with it will be on your record. Say goodbye then to getting a great job in the future.

As another has said just don't hang out with them as you have too much to lose. Even people who get high know that it is the dumbest thing on the planet to have something in your vehicle.

You said in the car with does this mean you are driving or someone else. In ALABAMA whomever is in control of the vehicle is responsible for all of the contents of that vehicle. This being said there are two sets of circumstances. number one if you are driving and the person with drugs is riding with you it is your responsibility to know. In this case you are responsible for anything in their possession weapons drugs it is all on you. Number two if you are riding with someone and they have drugs then you probably will not be prosecuted. The possession of the vehicle contents is on them now. If you pick up a hitch hiker that has illegal stuff and then get stopped it sucks to be you.

In my state, you can be arrested for Visiting a Common Nuisance which is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. However, this may vary from state to state.

Not always, unless you are the driver with the drugs, because a car is considered to be a domicile, and you are responsible for who enters your car.

If they ditch the drugs in the car, and no one claims them, then everyone in the car can be arrested for possession, so...

Yes.

Don't hang out with dopers, and this problem is self correcting.
