What is the current situation reguarding the US military on St Kilda?

Bill Oddie spoke breifly about it on a recent program a number of 'masts and a power generator' the size of a large caravan' he said.

I wasn't aware that the US Military had any sort of presence there at all?

Below from Wiki:
The MoD base is part of the Hebrides missile tracking range based in Benbecula, where test firings and flights are carried out. The Ministry of Defence leases St Kilda from the National Trust for Scotland for a nominal fee.

The info from Wiki is correct.

St Kilda (or Hirta) was last permenantly inhabited in about 1930, the last residents moved to the mainland because it was uneconomical for them to live there.

It has been a World Heritage Site for many years and temporary home to scientists, geologists, ornithologists and the like.

With the arrival of the US military, several masts have been erected on the prominent summits and tracks have been bulldozed across the hillsides. There's also permenant settlements and a helipad.

Don't know why St Kilda was chosen when there are other uninhabited islands nearby (eg Boreray) that aren't designated World Heritage Sites.

There's info and a map on this page http://www.nts-seabirds.org.uk/properties/st_kilda/st_kilda.aspx the map isn't all that clear and since it was published further masts have been erected. There's more info about St Kilda on these sites - http://www.kilda.org.uk/

i'm a huge passionate St Kilda supporter and that i understand each little thing you've stated. i might want to have stated it a minimum of 10 situations, there is not any way we were ever going to win the premiership with gamers like Dean Polo, Raph Clarke etc. in our section. Polo might want to by no potential get a finals recreation for Collingwood or Geelong. we want to finish somewhat extreme recruiting and inject some youthful skills and %. into this crew. I heavily do no longer know how our recruiters can omit gamers like Duncan, Menzel etc. Getting so annoyed that we easily haven't any promising youthful skills except Tommy Walsh, Rhys Stanley (if he will pull his finger out) and that backmen who performed some video games (call slips my options). some extreme trades want to be made, precisely correct - and actual some restructuring. Get Jason Gram into that midfield as he appears the purely individual who's prevalent with a thanks to play on after a mark. we want to start up taking section in on at each fee and by no potential going backwards. That preparation is sensible and could artwork for a crew like Hawthorn who've staggering kicks of their crew like Suckling, Birchall, Guerra etc. yet we've/had Dawson, Clarke, Baker, Blake - none of whom might want to be positive adequate to kick somewhat of handball. we want a sparkling coach, I loved Ross I wish him the most suitable besides the undeniable fact that it truly is time to regulate it up if we opt for to press for the premiership. The window is enormous open my pal
