I have had cable for 10 years and have just wondered with all the sky adverts if sky is really better.I have also heard sky is unreliable and that it doesn't work during snow or thunder storms is this true?

yes during bad storms sky has been know to suddenly go off but this usually depends on the storm your having..... put it like this as well, if you get sky, you get about 30% more channels than you would on cable because all cable does is they but the channels off sky and then re-sell them on to you but if you go direct to sky you will tell the difference!!!!!
best of luck.

Sky does have problems in bad weather, be it wind, rain, thunder & lightening or snow.
I was with NTL but they did not offer all the interactice services that Sky have which is why I switched to them.
Sky's customer services is vertually non existant.
Not only do you pay a National rate premium (upto 10p per minute) to phone them, but you are kept waiting forever before your call gets answered, if answered at all.
I left Sky because of their customer services (or the lack of it).
I was kept waiting on the phone for 1 hour before hanging up after not speaking to anyone, and still getting charged for the privilege, and Sky making money of my call.

I did not go back to NTL cable as they did not offer any HD box and was still uncertain about their interactive services, so I settled for the free digital TV channels.

I have just signed up for the new Vigin Media service, which is cable.
They offer a FREE V+ HD box (which is £300 with Sky), and it can record 2 programmes whilst watching another, unlike Sky which is record 1 watch 1.
Also with Vigin the multi room is cheaper with the V+ box, £5 as apposed to £10 with Sky.
They also have full Interactive services as well. So if they deliver on all these points then I think Cable will be best, Time will tell.

Benefits of Vigin Media (cable).
Faster Broadband speeds.
Free V+ HD box (saving £300.)
No Interference with TV reception.
Free-fone phone number if you have a Virgin Media phone line or local call (0845) number if with BT or other provider.
Many other services and deals available.

Benefits of Sky. ????

I have no complaints about Sky except that once in a blue moon the box needs a "reset" because of something having destroyed the signal completely, and as for the rain and snow business, it's so rare as to be ignored, even if it's very annoying on the rare occasions it DOES occur.
I have more trouble with prats keep phoning me to tell me that my equipment is no longer under guarantee so I should immediately take out some expensive insurance (which I don't want and won't buy anyway!) from a company which is NOT Sky ! ! !
Otherwise it's OK - none of this re-tuning the box whenever a new channel comes on either - it just appears automatically.

I've had both and can tell you that they are both subject to faults. Sky does cut out when we've had thunderstorms here but then again my cable went off completely for no reason one Christmas, and that it also happened again quite recently.

Sky is a bit cheaper than cable, but you can get all your services with cable on just the one line coming into your home.

Sky used to have lots of problems but most of them have been fixed and the only thing which interferes with the reception is very strong wind/rain which happens very infrequently, I can't remember the last time it affected us.

I know that cable is more reliable but I would make the decison based on price and the selection of channels.

Oh and I think sky is better because sky+ is very nice :)

Stick with the cable...sky is too expensive,we pay about 50 pounds a month, with the movie channels and all that lot,but the movies are repeated for weeks...and yes,it doesnt work during heavy rain and bad weather...

I had sky t.v. for several years. Something went wrong with the dish, and they were doing a special offer for repairs. I wasted 3 of my days off for three separate appointments for repair blokes not to show. They were too busy fitting up new customers with the newer systems.
I cancelled my subscription, and went with cable. No probs since, and just the same progs.
Incidentally, the repair blokes from sky turned up about three months after they were expected. I will leave the rest to your imagination.

Sky is better as even the cheapest packages have many more channels on them.
Many channels available on Sky aren't available on cable.

The picture can play up in severe weather but it's never for long & doesn't happen often.

Personally I would never go back to cable, Sky is soo much better

sky is proven to be better than cable for many reasons -

#better range of channels
#better customer service
#reliable (modern boxes and satellites very very rarely cut off during a storm)
#apparenlty sky has better picture quality
#overall it's cheaper
