In the US, I have seen the following abbreviations:
PP = Personal Phone (sometimes substituted with CP or LL)
BP = Business phone
CP= Cell phone
LL = Land Line
FX = Fax

PP stands for "Particular Person."
It's like writing C/o (care of) before address, if you are staying with somebody else, may be as a paying guest.

It suggests that, when you will call this number, I will not be immediately available. You will have to request the person, who will lift the phone, to call me. (May be from neighborhood)

This was routine procedure followed in good old days of trunk calls. (Anybody knows about trunk calls, in this world of mobile connectivity....)

When the STD / ISD facility was not available, people used to call the telephone exchange, give the phone no and the city they wanted to call, and then the operator in the exchange used to ask whether you want PP? (Particular person) They used to take extra charges for PP facility.

PP = padousi ka phone.

We give our neighbour's no. generally to others so that they could contact us.
P.P. is may be Padosi(Neighbour) ka Phone no.
I think no need to explain more.

Good question, This yahoo Q&A is meant to improve the knowledge like this. But people are keep on asking not value added questions.
