ive been taking them everyday as advised by my doc after i had ulcerative colitis. our intestines "normally" have it's own bacterial flora, however, in instances like with severe diarrhea you may run out of it and your digestion will be disrupted, probiotic yogurt drinks will provide you with some. they help ease digestion. if you dont have intestinal problems, you may consider taking it every two days instead of daily. as long as you're not having diarrhea everytime you take it, then it's ok and even beneficial. just limit to 100mL a day.

Of course you can. Breastmilk is probiotic too. Maybe the 'age 3' thing is due to the tiny bottles they could choke on? It is very helpful especially after having antibiotics or if they were not breastfed and so didnt get them then. But I would suggest plain, live yoghurt instead. He is likely to eat it at that age - or if not you can mix a little pureed fruit in. These expensive drinks are full of sugar or sweeteners

On one of the e-lists I'm on there was a discussion where the special yogurt came up and one of the ladies said that she tried it and that it really did work but she had to stop using it because it cost too much.
And that name of the bacteria (which I don't know if it's a made up name or not, I have to wonder about that myself) the bifidus regularis makes me laugh b/c it's such a silly name.

I take probiotics every day and I have noticed an improvement in my digestive health as well as the health of my skin and other areas of my body. I have also read that probiotics can improve your immunity. Remember, when you take antibiotics you kill off many "good bacteria" in your body. Probiotics are the good bacteria or flora that your body needs for health and homeostasis. You need to replace them and even supplement them for good health.

If it has live active cultures (not all varieties do) then it will help somewhat. But regular solid yogurt with live cultures will do just as well, costs less and keeps better.
