Look at your bad habits.
Are you cynical?
Are you sarcastic?
Do you gossip?
Find the one bad habit that hurts your relationship with God the most.
Work on that bad habit during Lent and then when Lent is over keep working on it.

Giving up chocolate or sugar for example is really a child`s Lent, if we are really serious we should give up whatever sin we are in the habit of commiting the most, it could be judging other`s, stealing or telling lies,but whatever it is God would be more pleased if we do this instead.

The problem I have seen is that when something has been given up, the time was for only a short while . yet, for those who truly want a habit to be given up, they must often struggle free from it.not as easy as giving up things like comfort foods or material comforts.

Go to the Pub , get pis*ed, have a T bone steak .. Have a good think about bad habits and then go home. Throw out the Bible in your bookcase (make sure it gets recycled)..

I have a couple of catholic friends that would give up soda or their lint because it was easy. It also has a good side to that because if you quit drinking sodas with caffiene, you'll lose weight :D

I believe it is supposed to be somthing you really like. My bro gave up video games last year and this year gave up hot flaming cheetos (he eats those every day at school) I believe it is supposed to be a sacrifice as it is said Jesus sacrificed his life for us.
