I've pulled just a hair over that amount with my 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo with a 4.0 and an auto. I did it on a long haul out of Vegas. It was long straight highways and just a few mountain roads with one gnarly rocky road at the end. It did it, fine ... but I'm nuts and I have a lot of experience towing. The other recommendations I see posted are spot on as well. The Grand Cherokee is a uni body vehicle and is not a good candidate for frequent or heavy towing. Occasionally, is okay but try not to pull more then it's rated for. Make sure your vehicle's braking, cooling, suspension and drive systems are all in top shape to make it as safe as possible. Plus make sure the tires you are running are rated above what you plan on pulling!

Yes they are, they have a Class III Tow rating of 5,000 Pounds, I've towed 9200 pounds with mine and it didn't have a problem, I just don't recommend that very often. But yes your jeep is fully capable of that load as long as you have a Class III Tow Hitch. If your jeep has the V8 engine you are able to tow 6,500 pounds.

If its the 2.5 WG shape i would have though you will be absolutly fine the gearbox dosnt go down like the other people say...the module goes down...not a mechanical fault. If it is the newer ZH shape 2005- then they dont toe so well...they are overbodiesd so the gearbox struglles a little anyway.

jeep are v poor for gearbox and suspension failure they are not that good at off road and towing with them if you are buying is not advised the gearbox would not be able to cope the ride would be comprised think more along the line of a towing truck or a vechical designed to toe u have been warned it is an ameriacan vechiacl they are designed with motorway in mind with rubish suspension i have worked on several american cars

If it's a 4L engine (six cylinder), that's too much legally though I guess it would deal with it. If you were stopped by the police on a public road you could be fined. If it's the V8 engine, there is no problem.
