You get racism from all cultures. I wouldn't call Australia a racist country but yes there are some people who live here that are racist against 'brown' people, 'white' people, asians etc. I would say that you coming from the UK you would be used to the odd comment or two just like I am used to the odd comment or two from Aboriginals.
Unfortunately some people love to hate and you will find those people everywhere.
Try avoiding dark alleys by yourself at night and you should be ok.
A bit of advice though - Australia is a beautiful country and if you are planning a mission around the world it wouldn't be complete without coming down under.

Australians are not racist, on a whole. However, all countries have people that are racist, (little contradictory). There is a small group around Australia, who by there parents, have been taught that they are out casts ( there not, there bloody Aussies, but think there not). Mainly some 20's year old ancestral Lebanese (not saying that ancestral Lebanese people are racists, but these groups are ancestral Lebanese ). As a reaction to this, some ancestral Europeans groups (20's) are now agents most people that look ancestral middle east)
This said, in the cities and the country, nobodies going to come up to you and tell you to get lost you Asian. Australia is all about people having a fair go, and treating people all the same, less then .008% are going to look at you meanly, nothing more . Your probably going to be tested because your English and suck at cricket.
Australian sure do hate Indian based telemarketers or Indian based tech support thou, :)

This is ridiculous... no offence but Australia is a westernised country and so it is no different to people in the UK. As I have already told you the first time you posted this question, some are racist and some aren't. How can anyone tell you for definate that you won't experience any??? All I can say is that generally speaking Australians are kind and friendly people and I doubt that you would experience any 'serious' forms of racism. Maybe these people that have given you this information, experienced something, but that's not to say everyone will.

Ha thats a good one. A LOT of my friends are "brown" and from all different parts of the world. The worst it has gotten is a bunch of bogan scum mouthing at one of my freinds from across the road late one saturday night.
Obviusely there are places to avoid in every city, for example in Sydney theres places like redfern and Cronulla, which could get nasty, especially on a Saturday night but thats not due to the color of your skin, thats due to ****-tards trying to pick a fight with someone.
you may not have heard of the cronulla riots which occurred last year which was fueled by racism and a lot of people because of that think that Australia is incredibly racist but that was an isolated incident largely about gangs of kids. Aussie is way more friendly then my experience of America so don't worry about it as long as you do what you should in every foreign place and ask a local (bartenders are usually the best) where the bad side of town is

It depends on which part of Au you are visiting. Cities are usually cosmopolitans and people are mostly tolerant and therefore are restrained from demonstrating their hidden hatred against people from India subcontinent or people from its origin. If you are visiting remote areas, yes, people may some time make it very clear either verbally or through their body language that they don't like brown skin people. Specially, the un-educated people who are never exposed to people from any other non-white country or from non-English speaking countries some time cannot resist . The first target is colour then the accent or language. Realistically, you cannot change the mentality of people in one century, it may take another couple of centuries before people will get really civilised.
Unfortunately, Indian in their own country are victim of racism when it comes to interstate migration and job hunting. It is the language spoken in different state which is mainly responsible for
cultivating the racism among people in different states of India. I have had the opportunity to visit and reside in UK, USA, Canada, Australia and NZ. I have experienced least racism in USA and Canada where I believe people are more tolerant and exposed to people from India subcontinent.

I lived in Australia for a year. Some of the small towns were very racist. It reminded me of American hick towns that you see on TV. I would avoid Carnarvon, WA. They have a pub for "Blacks" (which means any colour than white). The rest of the pubs are for white folk.
I now live in the UK and although it is more multicultural it too has it's problems. I was once told that I was not foreign because I'm white. If that's not racist I don't know what is.

A load of old rope is what you've heard. Australia has one of the most polyglot racial mixtures in the world. Of course, as in any country, you will find the odd racist, but it's really not a problem here.

Yes, we're racist here. What's your problem with that?
I've been to lots of countries around the world where they charged tourists more than locals for entry into some attractions (e.g. Beijing charges more for non-chinese into the Forbidden palace). That's racism - but we're not that blatent.
You didn't make it clear if you were English or Indian. Perhaps you're not clear in your own mind.
If you're white english you won't suffer any racism but if you're Indian (the people who steal our jobs) then you may experience some latent racism - but it won't be in-your-face, just very subtle.
The Indians are racist (in India). The Pakistanis are racist. The Thais are racist. Everyone's racist against the Whites. Welcome to the World.
