I asked too many questions. I had a very hard time with 'it's God's plan' or 'God works in mysterious ways' when it was obvious their answer was actually, 'Don't ask questions. They make us nervous.'

I was (like other responders) told that asking questions was a sign of doubting God. And doubting God is something only Satan does. Ergo: I was full of demons. Because I was asking questions. Questions like: why are there 2 creation stories? Where did the demons go when the pigs ran off the cliff? If Adam and Eve were the first people on Earth then where did Abel find a wife? If it says women should not teach, then why are you (a woman) teaching? Why does it say that women have to cover their head in church? (Asked after noticing most women did not cover their head in church) Why do we ignore this verse but pay close attention to others? If the New Testament replaces the Old Testament, then why do we still read the Old Testament? If Judas' act of betrayal led to Jesus' trial, execution -but then his resurrection, why isn't Judas considered a saint? Why is there a different sequence of events of the Easter story in each gospel?

And on and on. Each question begat another question. And the more I questioned, the more nervous the church elders got. Then they got angry. It didn't make a lick of sense. Why was it wrong to ask questions? Was the fear that if I asked the wrong question that God would simply vanish?

Or did they not know the answers?

Or, even more disturbing, did they know the answers, but chose not to say?

I prefer life using my full mind, both my questioning nature and my playful sense of the absurd.

I kept asking more and more questions about religion that my pastor either refused to, or couldn't answer. Eventually they had a sit down with me to tell me how my questioning was wrong, and I shouldn't do it because questioning Gods ways was a sign that satan was trying to win me over. I believed them for a while, until I got older and refused to believe that blind faith was the only way a person could find God. Nowadays I envy those people who can be happy blindly believing the christian religion, because It is no longer possible for me to do so. The world is a lot bleaker when you realize the truth of it, and I was much happier when all I had to do was say "God works in mysterious ways". Oh well, I'll just keep on keepin' on. I am a person who must always ask "why", and nothing less of a straight answer will make me happy.

I realized my personal spiritual journey was not being fulfilled with religious dogma. I realized that I would never be able to find the answers I sought with an organized religion. I also decided that the answers that I sought may not be on the current path, but that the journey may be the most important none the less. I realized I may never find the answers, but that I am ok with that result as well. I will journey none the less, and hopefully one day when I die I will know the answers and not just pass into nothingness, but if there is no life after death, there is nothing I can do about it and have to accept that possibility as well.

I left Catholicism when I was about fifteen because I thought the belief system was too rigid and conservative for me. I just couldn't fathom the idea that good people would be sent to hell for not believing in Jesus and God. I also didn't like my religion trying to decide what I could and could not stand for. Therefore, now I just believe what I feel is right because no one knows the truth, and I'm sure we're all right and wrong in some respects, but since we're in the dark we may as well believe what we're comfortable with.

I looked into what was involved with my religion and realized that I did not agree with a lot of it, or any religion for that matter.

I left Protestantism because it is shallow, stupid, illogical, and untenable. I left Deism because I became convinced through much study that Catholicism is the One True Faith.
