I'm looking for my first dog. I have a family of 4; 2 children in high school. We like to travel, about once to twice a year. Were usually on the go, and therefore need a dog that will go with us. It needs to be

small, compact

little to no grooming; no more than a weekly brushing and occational occurence, and annual haircuts.

Little to no excersise requirements, can't walk the day often but the dog will be able to roam about in a 3 story house and can be let out in backyard.

Little to no hereditary health defects

I'm hoping there is a dog out there for me. Please dont suggest a robotic or "fake" dog to me, as this is a real question therefore i'm wanting real answers. Thank you guys so much!

Yorkshire Terriers. Although they have long hair, you can get it cut short. Faithful loving and small enough to take anywhere.

I am going to be totally biased here but we have the perfect dog. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are lap dogs, need little grooming, a good breeder would have made sure there are no medical concerns, she is quiet, requires little exercise but enjoys it when she gets it.

These are perfect dogs, check out the Internet every web site recommends this dog.

I truly think you'd be just great for a Jack Russell Terrier, if you can find one who is already an adult...because puppies are VERY high energy. Fortunately, as they age, they settle down a bit to your level of energy.

:)

I think that is the perfect dog for you, with 4 kids to keep it entertained.

They love to take walks, go for rides, are small dogs who are compact and don't shed a whole lot.

They are very easy to keep, clean and they never stink!

They are characters. Extremely intelligent and do well indoors and out.

I really think this is a breed you might look into.

If that doesn't suit you, please go to a shelter and see what's available. There will be so many to choose from.

I recommend a shelter dog, mixed breed. Just go to your local animal shelter and let them know what you're looking for. Mutts are very loyal and sweet and by adopting a shelter dog, you will be doing a great thing. I don't know much about little dogs because I'm a Dalmatian/Great Dane lover so it's all about big dogs for me. Good luck!

One of the "oodle" breeds would probably fit you needs perfectly and for what you describe the Cavoodle would be the best. This breed with the poodle (toy or minature) crossed with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mother would be perfect. Non shedding and non allegenic thy are intelligent and seem to adapt to their owners character.

I have the perfect dog, but you can't have her : P she is a part beagle part fox terrier, I saw someone mentioned Jack Russel terrier, excellent dog, little grooming requiered, still low. a beagle wold be a little too big I think, although maintanance is very low.

maybe you need a miniature pincher, or italian greyhound, an 11 inch beagle, dauschound, they all have VERY short hair, are energetic but not freakishly marathon athletic....good luck, hope you find a little cuttie to love!

go to the pound and find a mutt. they are the best for your needs. not demanding, pedigrees can be costly, and spoiled . i am sure you can find a cutie that needs you as much as you need him. if not there a shelter in your town...
