The easiest way to appear intelligent and to gain respect from people that are on-line, viewing the content of your question or email, is to spell correctly and use proper grammar. The site gives everyone plenty of time to edit their entry and I don't believe that all the misuse is because of translation. Why don't people take the few extra seconds to form a precise expression?
P.S.: If you get nasty, I'll report you. Simple. So, be hateful if you want to...I'll just have your comment removed.

Okay: you weren't reading...I allowed for "translation" above. I just inferred that this couldn't be the only reason.

JacksFullHouse: No hyphen - gotchya.

JacksFullHouse: I checked for the correct spelling of "online/on-line" on-line. Guess what? It DOES have a hyphen. (Definition: On-line: (adj.) Connected via computer. Computing attached to or available through a central computer or computer network.)
Another thing: I took time to do that, not to ensure that I was right, but because I CARE about SPELLING CORRECTLY.

I don't live in a glass house and I don't throw stones.

I agree 100% but I think I smell a bit of hypocrisy.
You've incorrectly spelled scandal numerous times in a post regarding the novel "Catcher in the Rye" . I just felt those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Also, there are quite a few grammatical errors in the same response but I don't want to quibble.
I did appreciate your answer to one of my questions though. Cheers!

partly via fact they are lazy yet in addition via fact which you basically won't be able to spent fairly as lots time being acceptable in each little thing you do.... you're able to p.c.. and chosen what you spend a while on. i do no longer think of a internet site like this, a communicate board or an casual digital mail is that substantial; it ought to basically take some seconds to spell verify yet I each so often write one hundred solutions/emails/communicate board posts an afternoon, then the time provides up.... i might somewhat study & positioned up ten extra questions than spend the time making advantageous they are all acceptable. on the different hand, employer mails could be spellchecked, a impressive style of human beings do no longer do this the two. and that i understand that my posts are readable whether there could be an occasional typo; some human beings make maximum of errors i won't be able to come to a decision what they are saying! it rather is only stupid, that defeats the objective of posting something.

Some on this site may be from another country where english is not their first or natural language. So, maybe they are doing the best they can to participate on this site...spelling errors and all.

At times it will be revealed that some on this site are from a foreign country as this is a worldwide site...thus...with english not being their first or natural language it shows up as spelling errors.

Spelling or translation . . . the same thought applies to both. With those that english is not their natural language...they will have problems with both spelling and formulation of sentences or translation.

I think a lot of this has to do with the different levels. As one get up to a higher level the dumb spellings and dumber grammar are Les evident. Even foreigners are writing better English then the hip hop generation in the U.S.A. I guess its just cool to come of ignorant?

Oh yeah I forgot how important it is to "appear intelligent and to gain respect from people that are on-line." By the way Miss Intelligent, the word online doesn't need a hyphen.

This is one of my peeves with this site too. I have reported answers and questions that are illegible, and I will continue to do so. I think it is pure laziness and total apathy.

I think it has something to do with the age of the person on the other end. Those who are into text 'msging' have gotten used to using a new kind of shorthand.

That made me think of the song that goes, "I'm in a hurry to get things done oh I, rush and rush until life's no fun...all I really gotta do is live and die, but I'm in a hurry and don't know why..."

I've often wondered about this too. My grandmother was a school teacher, and would not approve of such behavior.
