I love the fall. A lot of people like to visit during Christmas. It's very crowded and it can be very cold. So, you have to wear a heavy winter coat, sweater, hat, gloves, scarf. And, you walk into a store where it's 80 degrees - there is nowhere to put your coat, hat, gloves, etc - so you get so uncomfortably hot that you can't stay there long. You go back outside to thirty degrees or less, and go through the same thing again. And, if it snowed, the streets are either icy or wet and slushy and you have walk around in heavy boots. The city is beautiful at Christmas; the department stores decorations are lovely - but, the stores are so crowded, the lines are so long and people are walking into each other. It's very difficult to get tickets for shows - everything's sold out. There are lines waiting to seated in restaurants.

Summer in New York is awful - it's so humid and there is no air circulating between the tall buildings. Everyone is hot, sweaty and grumpy (and not everyone here smells like Chanel No. 5). The temperatures on subway platforms are often over a hundred degrees (the trains and buses are beautifully airconditioned, but the wait can be a nightmare)

New York in the Fall is great - the weather's comfortable - you don't have to wear hat, gloves, scarf. If you need a light jacket, it won't make you hot indoors. No chance of ice on the streets. The kids are back in school. If you are lucky enough to hit the changing of colors of foliage, Central Park is magnificent. New shows are opening on Broadway. I think the hotel and airfares are better in the Fall. Spring is also a good time to visit.

If you are going to stay in Times Square, I recommend the Belvedere Hotel on 48th Street. The bus and subway are on the corner. Every room has a coffee maker, microwave and fridge (you can take your restaurant leftovers back to your room). It's very, very clean with a very friendly staff and rooms start at $160
you may be able to negotiate a better price at Orbitz or PriceLine. Whichever hotel you decide on, be sure to read what the previous guests think of it and if they would stay at that hotel again.

I greatly prefer visiting NYC in April-May and September-October. The airfares between California and NYC are very reasonable and New York weather is better than summer or winter. While the Holidays do offer excellent city views with the decorations, etc., I find the hotels full and expensive. In summer, NYC is too hot and muggy for me.

Definitely Christmas! Its gorgeous all the decorations and lights. Please keep in mind its also very crowded. October is nice too! Fall in NY is very pretty. Street vendors, some streets have small fairs and festivals. You can rent a car and drive upstate go apple picking see NYS mountains. Also not far New Hope, PA nice little day trip. I always find great deals on Expedia.com!

Have fun!
