Penecillin, whether in pill form or injection works against bacteria, not viruses. It can, however, lead to making the bacteria resistant to that specific antibiotic. To prevent this, (1) you should take all the antibiotics that you are prescribed. If yopu decide to take it for 2-3 days instead of 10 days or whatever your doctor ordered, then you don't kill all the bacteria and you most likely will make them resistant to it. And (2) you shouldn't take any antibiotics needlessly. If you take antibiotics when you don't need them (either self-prescribe or take some left over pills from a previous prescription) you are running the risk of developping resistant bacteria. Then, when you really want to kill these resistant bacteria, you may not find anything left to kill them with.

If you don't stick to the dose regimen carefully, you can make a virus resistant to penecillin. Then you require stronger antibiotics to kill it.

penicillin was discovered in the fifties,it is a broad spectrum drug.which means it will treat most infections.it is still a wonder drug today there are no bad things about taking it,unless you are allergic to it.if you are allergic one of the first signs is a rash.if this happens,stop taking immediately and see your doctor

Penicillin can be a wonderful antibiotic or a deadly poison, it depends if you are allergic to it or not.
If your doctor has prescribed it to you for the first time, he should have done an allergy check on you first.

penicillin is an excellent drug unless you are allergic to it. However, many organisms are now resistant to it. It does not work against viruses, but against some bacterial infections only. Antibiotics in general only work against bacteria, not viruses.

Penicillin pills taste bitter, swallow them fast. They will make your urine very yellow and unpleasant smelling. That's the down-side that you wanted to know.

Unless you could have a rare allergy to penicillin, there is nothing bad about it. Please believe me, it has saved many, many lives!!
