I'm really interested in a guy who has done three tours in Iraq but I don't want to offend him if we talk about our views. I don't want to come off sounding like an a** either. Are my views going to seem offensive to him?

I support our troops unconditionally.
I support a planned, controlled withdrawal of forces (not cut and run).
I don't like Bush or Rumsfeld even a little bit.
I wish more of our forces had gone to Afghanistan originally.
I hate Sadaam Hussein but wish his execution would have been less political.
I think that in some ways we are allowing the Iraqi government to f off while our military does all the work.

Please no political arguments. Just tell me if you think any of this will offend him and why.

I understand that everyone has different views. I'm asking if this would offend you personally.

I think that you just sounded like many in the military. Those aren't radical views by any stretch. I actually share those views. I do like Bush, however. I wasn't upset to see Rumsfeld leave.

I think he's going to respect you for those views.

I know I do.

Ok, now for me personally, I support every facet of this battle in Iraq, which is one front in the War on Terror, or more accurately, the war for the survival of the Western World.

Remember that the IRAQIS executed Saddam, not the USA. We actually did not want him executed, but Iraq's leaders did, and they run this country. The Iraqis ARE trying to do more of the fighting and are having many successes. As more Iraqi units are trained and equipped, they will get better. Try rebuilding an army under fire and see how easy it is. This is especially difficult with a culture that does not embrace professional NCOs, weapons safety, trust in subordinates, and decentralized command. The Saudis and Kuwaitis have similar issues even after decades of training.

As for your views and his, just do not fall into the trap the leftists seem to: They insult the Soldier (they simply cannot keep their insane hatred contained). The US Armed Forces are perhaps the best educated and knowledgeable Armed Force the world has ever seen. We hate being patronized, especially by the national socialist "ant-war" left.

I am not trying to be political, just stating observations and feelings. Your intended may have similar feelings, or may not. For me, I feel like the left-wing has a knife poised for my back while the terrorists have one poised for my neck. This causes feelings of distrust and concern that my own citizens will actually (and by their own admission, have actually) assisted the terrorists in killing my friends and trying to kill me. Now, he may or may not feel this way, but I can only speak for me and those I know and I have yet to hear anyone voice a different opinion on that feeling.

As long as you have rational discussions with him and respect him as a person, he should do the same to you. At first, he will probably be guarded and easy to make defensive, but as your relationship grows and deeper trust builds, he should be able to open up more.

The big things are trust, listening, understanding, and compassion. Not odd as that forms the foundation of any strong relationship.

I'd be curious/suspicious of your wish that Saddam's execution be less political . What the heck is that supposed to mean ? It looks MORE like you're seeking things to be confrontational about or should I say. . .. Blame Bush about !!!
And EVERYBODY wants to plan a withdrawal, but the very fact that you would even question whether that would offend him or not. .... . . . .. . means that your idea of 'withdrawal' is of the 'cut and run' nature .
That is my opinion.. . . . . thank you for the opportunity to help you !!!!!

First off, don't bring up the subject.
If he needs to talk let him.
Ask questions to gain his perspective and understand .
He knows more about the subject than 94% of the people on here or in a newsroom,he lived it.

I don't get offended with anyone's views. It's their views. I have mine. I enjoy going downrange and doing my job. I'm an active duty MP, so yes I get shot at, mortared, and IEDs, but I can't wait to get back out there. I don't care what anyone thinks about the war. Just let me do my job. The big thing though, that's just me. Everybody's different.

i realize i'm not a man or in the military, but i'm married to one.

first off if you two aren't very serious yet, chances are you won't talk about any of this stuff anyway. most military guys don't like to talk about this drama in their free time.

second, these are your opinions. if he doesn't like you because of your opinions/views then he's not worth being dating. don't be someone you're not, that's not fair to you or them (in the long run).
