It is common for women to suffer with thrush, often because of hormonal changes throughout the month. See the pharmacist for over the counter medication. There is a triple pack of thrush treatment, whereby you use a pessary in the vagina, coupled with cream to apply and a one off oral tablet which should clear the infection in the gut. These three items used together will surely zap the problem and should be cleared within a week. Ignore all the rude answers - thrush is nothing to be embarrassed about - sadly us women suffer regularly with it, and often men think they are immune or that we've "been elsewhere." It's through their ignorance that they make these remarks.

Um, Yeah.... Tea, eating veggies, rice, and pineapple will do it; almost as smart as putting sodium hydroxide on your toothbrush... Also, there is NO live yeast in yogurt. There are however strains of lactobacillis and acidophilus. Not a smart move to introduce additional bacteria when what you're trying to fight is fungal. One has nothing to do with the elimination of the other. Oh, and the guy with the sucking on a supository, or the one suggesting painting your mouth purple should stick to working at the drive-thru. Thrush is opportunistic and therefore should be dx'd by culture. There could be a very serious reason as to why your mouth just up and stopped protecting itself...

Only a traditional, unsweetened yoghurt containing natural bacterial culutres with no added fruit or sugar will help you until you see your pharmacist. Sugar and the natural sugar in fruit or milk will feed the thrush outbreak and bleech on your toothbrush will wipe out the natural bacteria or flora that you need to fight candida or thrush. Being too clean with bleech will always give you thrush so use natural yoghurt or yukult drinks to maintain a healthy ballance. Try just drinking water and eating mostly vegetables and rice until you restore a healthy balance in your body!!

Don't know why you would not want to go to the Dr. for a simple prescription, but eat Yogurt several times a day. and scrape your tongue daily to loosen the residue. Also, sterilize your toothbrush after each use. I put just a tiny drop of chlorine bleach on it and let it sit awhile, then rinse it well. An unsterile brush will only keep it (the thrush) active.

Not sure about the UK, but in the US we have vaginal preparations for yeast infections, and it's possible to suck on the suppositories if you don't think too much about what you're doing. And mothers have available the option of painting the mouth with gentian violet, which is OK for babies but older people hate being purple.

Brush your teeth and tongue with salt. Just wet your brush and sprinkle on a little salt.
Then rinse out your mouth several times per day with salty water..especially last thing before going to bed.
Should be better in 3-4 days

If Oral Canesta didn't do the trick you really need to see your GP for something stronger

Try Kombucha Tea - it's a drink made from a culture and seems to do everything. It detoxifies, boosts immune system, eases aching joints, (and in my case stopped them) to name but a few. Easy to make, tastes nice and costs very little....
