The appendix is a closed-ended, narrow tube up to several inches in length that attaches to the cecum (the first part of the colon) like a worm. (The anatomical name for the appendix, vermiform appendix, means worm-like appendage.) The inner lining of the appendix produces a small amount of mucus that flows through the open center of the appendix and into the cecum. The wall of the appendix contains lymphatic tissue that is part of the immune system for making antibodies. Like the rest of the colon, the wall of the appendix also contains a layer of muscle, but the muscle is poorly developed.

the apendix is on the right side of the body. It is possible she is constipated or at certain ages growing pains, but those are mostly felt in the legs or even if somewhere else usually when laying down for some reason. All those charlie horses I woke up with during puberty, now I am fully grown at nearly 6', pretty good for a female.

To find your appendix, put your hand on the right side of your waist, and tilt it down. Where your middle finger is - that's your appendix.

Have your daughter lie down and raise her right leg. If it hurts, if she's running a fever, vomiting, or has diarrhea, it could be appendicitis. Take her to the Emergency room right away.

If those symptoms don't match, then make an appointment to take her to her doctor to find out what's wrong. It could be a stomach virus, or constipation.

I hope she gets better soon!

Your appendix is on the lower right hand side of your abdomen. However, the pain can radiate throughout the abdominal area.
