Which one you put on top? The old one or the new one?
His old litter consist of wood pellets and the new one sand-like, does it matter?

old one on top. I assume you are in the process of switching litter brands or litter type, right? I always put some of the old type on top of the new one just to get the cats to use the litter as before. Once they do that, they'll keep going even if the old and new are all mixed up already.

You probably just want to try throwing away the old litter all together, and fill it just with the sand-type... if you find the cat won't use the sand at all, try mixing mostly clean wood pellets, and mix in some sand and with each change, mix more sand and less wood, until the cat will use the sand... sometimes if they are old they won't accept the change and may start having "accidents" on the floor or carpets around the house, in which case you can ask a trainer at a pet specialty store (like PetSmart here in the US) what you can do, or you may need to just keep the wood pellets. Good Luck!! hope this helped...

Throw ALL the old away, rinse pan, put fresh in. The cat does the rest. If you don't completely start fresh it will smell. And the whole house will absorb the odors. Cat boxes smell like bad ammonia if not changed a least once a week. Depending on how many cats you have. And throwing the old away is something that needs to be disposed of in a plastic bag wrapped tightly and then taken to dumpster ASAP Good Luck

Old on top. If your trying to change litter, continue to use less of the old and more of the new until your using all new.

With that kind of a switch, I would use up one and then completely empty the box before adding in the new stuff. I would think the wood would keep the clumping litter from clumping properly.

Peace!

i have never heard of wood pellet litter. but i would assume it doesn't matter. why are you using both? just decide which one you want to use, then use up all you have of the other and start off fresh with the type you want to continue using!!

if you are switching litters, and are worried aobut him not wanting to use the new litter, place the old type on top. That way it looks more comfortable to him, and with the new material on the bottom, he will have a chance to get used to it.

Cats like to do their business and bury it after. As long as they can still do that then no matter how you change the litter or what you use it will be fine....I use Tidy Cat. It clumps nicely.

I have 2 of my own....."Smidge" 13 yrs and "Tigger" 2 yrs.
