It's now well established that George W. Bush never showed up for National Guard duty for a period of approximately one year, possibly more, in 1972-1973. Despite all the talk about "honor and dignity this scumbag of a President dodged his responsibilities and duties he volunteered for with the United States Military.

Your question shows you were never in the military, do not understand how the Guard and Reserve work and are just being a parrot of something you were told by someone else.

AWOL only applies if a person is on extended active duty. If a person is in the Guard or Reserve and misses drills, they are NOT AWOL. They might be charged with "failure to show" but they are not AWOL.

Secondly, the only thing that makes people show up for drills is points. If they do not get enough points for a year, it is called a "bad year" and does not count for retirement. Bush had a bad year. Big deal.

If you want to be upset about something, how about KERRY deserting his post during combat? Check out his medal citation. He was commander of the boat. He grounded the boat leaving it a sitting duck and ran off into the jungle to shoot a kid in the back. He broke a number of standard miltiary doctrines and got a medal for it. Must be nice to be a close personal friend of the #1 democrat candidate for president at the time, Teddy.....

It has never been definitively proven that he did not fulfill his military obligation. What about Bill Clinton dodging the draft? That is by far a more serious crime.
