With this number of Christians, is it really necessary to establish a Christian empire with Christianity as the world's official religion? What about respect for other religions--namely Buddism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, animism, Sikhism and others?

I don't think it is necessary to take up missionary work as a Christian. There is much one can do through advocacy, counselling , teaching, charity work and outreach. Why are there still ministers going to Africa trying to do large-scale conversions to evangelical branches of Christianity? Most Africans have a religion already-Catholicism, Islam, Anglicanism, animism and others.

Perhaps it is better to do work with the homeless and poor through fundraising without forcing religion on them or just offering it to them and sharing in it without actively converting people. There is enough work to do through advocacy networks, teaching and counselling in one's own religious community.

I guess you've heard the saying "Preaching for its own Church". Well, here you are, that's what peoples do.

I don't think this is a lack of respect for other religions though. When you believe in something then there is nothing wrong about selling your own ideal, as long as it's done peacefully and respectfully.

It could be more or less constructive as you suggest, but again it's all about believing. We can argue that if no one had done the work of spreading the knowledge of Christianity, there wouldn't be that many Christians, if any at all. So maybe it's a necessity, as long as you believe in the goodness and necessity of Christianity or any religion for that matter.

True, but the christian growth thing is not so they can be the worlds official religion or to take over the world not at all, Every christian has been commissioned by the lord to preach the gospel to every creature of every corner of the earth, Its a matter of saving souls from going to hell and respectively helping that soul or person to get to know the lord personally.
Not by heresay or what so and so has said, or by what you or anyone was told or taught.
You don't really know what christianity is about until You actually believe and experience the saving plan of the living god, for yourself.

Right on, brother! Missionary work is so evil. We must respect other religions but not try to force it on others or play on their financial helplessness. It is wonderful to help poor people out, but not when using a religious message. Doing it for the sole purpose of gaining converts is incredibly wrong. You play on others' helplessness and trick them into giving up their own culture. If they want to convert, let them, but don't go around saying, "You worship false idols" or "You are a heathen." That is my problem with Christianity and Islam.

He was correct in his statement 2.1 billion is not enough. The christian faith unlike these you have spoke of is not about religion. Religion will not heal you, it will not make you happy, and it will not deliver you. Religion is not of God. Religion is when people try to look holy and live a unholy and unloving life. Religion is death. Christianity is not about religion it is about a relationship with the God. That relationship can only come thur his son Jesus the Christ. With out entering into relationship with God thru Christ no person will ever beforgiven of there sin. GOD will judge all people because of sin. In Gods great mercy he provided a way to avoid that punishment thru his son Jesus.
The sad thing is that people do not know the truth of the cost of forgiveness of sin. They have not been told in many parts of the earth. These faiths you have spoke of are people trying to find God on there own terms, God has given us the terms to finding him. God has given us the book the bible to help us to find him. He has given us Jesus for forgiveness of sin.
So should people die and go to hell for the lack of knowedge that most people have already come to. Indeed they shall unless someone teaches them. That is every christians job to give them the good news about what God has done thur Jesus. And that they can recieve his gift free of charge. We are all called to be a missionary for Christ. Love demands that we lay down our lives that people may come to the knowedge of God.

...I understand there are other religions; I don't understand why people want to prevent the true Gospel from reaching the unsaved, thus giving them a chance to believe and go to Heaven.
...Religion does not save; Jesus does, and the Gospel is this - Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He was raised according to the Scriptures. Finally, all must believe on Him for salvation.
...Social action can be used in conjuction with spreading the Gospel message, but only the Gospel message will prepare one for Heaven, and give eternal life.
...I cannot help it if taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth does not suit the agendas of some. If this bothers you, I challege you to look into your heart of hearts, and decide what you are following. There are many gospels around today - is the one I believe or am following the Gospel that will get me to Heaven? If not, what must I do?
...I purpose to please God, who calls all Christians to be ambassadors for Christ, witnesses for Him, locally and globally, until death or until Christ returns for us.
...Have you come to the place in your life where you can say that you know for certain that if you died today, you would go to Heaven?
...If you died today and stood before God, and He said to you, "Why should I let you into my Heaven, what would you say?"
...Acts 16:31 says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved..."
...Whosoever will, may come.

Well, Ted Haggard was evangelical and was sleeping with a gay prostitute at the same time. Does anybody really care what a self proclaimed evangelical really thinks? Why does the term "evangelical" carry any weight?

very true. many christians will find that notion as poisonous, but it is sad that there are evangelists in third world nations trying to preach/convert people with silly tactics. if i was starving and unintellegent, i would probably buy into cheap tactics the whole thing. those people need humanintarian aid, not ideological impregnation.

The purpose of evangelism is not to take over the earth...but to save souls for eternity!

Even if there is only one that does not know the love of Christ, we should do all we can to reach out to him or her!
