I keep thinking that if I saved my junk mail for a year, it'd be equivalent to a dozen trees. Very scary.

As a side note: have signed on to lists to not receive junk mail but still get them anyway. Anyone have any good ideas, solutions out there? Thanks in advance.

Everything takes energy to produce but we can legislate that recyclable paper be used and not to use chemicals such as bleach. We should ensure that the inks being used are vegetable based rather than petroleum based.

There are many jobs created by junk mail production - paper manufacturing, advertising concerns, artists, photographers and more and we must move to keep as many jobs as possible while reducing energy usage.

Instead of using coal, oil or nuclear energies we should focus on hydro electric energies that have a much less globing warming foot print.

Sadly Junk mail elimination is impossible... I have tried to get off mailing lists for years with no progress. However if you take that paper and immediatly shred and recycle it you can do just as much to end GW as if you were able to stop Junk Mail. I wish that those idiots that send it would get my point after the first letter, but they don't and well me sending more paper out to stop recieving paper makes no sense to me so I just quite trying now I just shred and recycle... let em mail its their 39 cents if they want to waste it on me fine... the paper gets recycled anyway so I guess thats all I can say about that.

I doubt that eliminating junk mail would have much of an impact. You might as well ask that TV commercials be stopped.
So far as a way to stop the junk mail. Send a letter to each mailer. Tell them that you are in business to read mail such as theirs. You welcome their business and will gladly receive more and that you fee rate for doing so is x$ per item, or per hour. Give the letter a week, to 10 days to get to the business owner. After that, when a piece of mail from them arrives, send them a bill for your time to have read it. If they do not respond, they have violated contractual agreement. It might be difficult to sue, but you can put a lean against their business.

yes, it takes energy to create the paper the junk is written on. To generate the power needed it takes the burning of fossil fuels which contribute to global warming from the release of carbon dioxides in the production of the electricity.
