My dog is a yr old. Stays outside, has a great yard, plenty of attention, eats good and has bones and toys and three other dogs to keep him company. But lately he has chewed up anything made of plastic outside. The hose, lawn furniture, knobs on the lawnmower, etc. I can never catch him in action. I have just about removed anything plastic. So, how do I break him of this habit?

Get some spray for it in pet store to stop chewing of objects.
To stop chewing all together you have to break them of the habit.Give them other chew toys(trial and error to find something they'll like) and discipline them when you catch them.Small dogs a swat on the butt with a newspaper or a can full of marbels (give it a good shake)to scare them.Bigger dogs may need a little stronger paper like a magazine lol.

Do what you've done- remove anything and everything plastic. I would suggest buying him some hard plastic toys to chew on- it just sounds like your guy gets bored during the day or maybe has some separation anxiety issues... He's just getting out his nervous energy. Give him some time... it also sounds like he's still young and young dogs like to chew!

Make sure your pup has lots of hard plastic toys and rawhide to chew on... You might also want to consider crating him during the day when you're at work- it will help him feel more secure, and keep your stuff from being chewed on! If your yard is big enough you could get him a kennel/run... that way he'd have more room, be outside, and your stuff would be spared from gnawing.

Best Wishes!

Try to put something on it he doesn't like: Mustard, Chillisauce, or try the Dog-EX stuff they sell sometimes at Pet stores. It tastes horrible for the Pet but a Human won't notice it. If it is something like a Lawnmower Control or that, you should wash your hands after using it, though.

Cover the plastic with hot mustard. It won't hurt the dog, but it will associate the plastic with a bad taste.
