I have a 26 month old daughter who seems very clever ( as most people tell me) but Im not sure if she is.

She can count to 10 by 1's and 2's (she learnt it herself)
She puts her cup, plate, ect in the sink when she has finished without being asked.
She puts her toys away before she goes to bed.
She can pick out over 15 different colours.
She only needs to hear a word once or twice before she can say it.
She always says "please' and "Thank-you"
She knows the names of most farm animals and all her other favoritre animals (eg: giraffe, monkey, elephant)

She can do lots of other stuff aswell. Is she clever or can most kids her age do these things?

Im not bragging, so sorry if it seems like it. I would just like to know if most kids her age can do things like these or if she really is clever

I have to say that even though my daughter knows 15 different colours, she can not say all their names, but she can point them out

at the age of 2 is when they start counting and learning their colors she is clever very smart even my 5yr old won't count to 10 by 2's but she can count to 100 with little help. she can do 6th grade math which is good and very advanced for her age its good that she puts her dishes away 2yr olds also love to clean aside from amking messes they love to help mommy clean. So that is normal if she has seen mommy and or daddy put dishes in the sink then so will the 2yr old. They learn from their parents and by observing. This is when they can comprehend things a lot better she started noticing and learning and watching when she was about 6months by the age of 2yrs thats when they either have been acting it out for a while or start to do things because mommy and daddy do it and they want to be just like mommy and daddy.

little girls do tend to pick up things like these easier than boys do, but I would say that your daughter is either clever or learns things easily. My son is almost 28 months old and hasn't done any of the things on that list, though he does know to put his diaper in the garbage and he thinks that the cup part of his potty is a big coffee cup. Everytime he sees it he says coffee. My friend's fiance could read simple books and I think he knew either all of the states in the US or every province in Canada before he started JK at age 4. It all depends on how your child learns and how much you work with them.

My 18 month old can do everything on your list bar the numbers, although she has a good try, and she can't recognise 15 different colours but has mastered the basics, I would say that your daughter is doing everything she should at her age, keep up the good work!

my 2 year old can also do these things
she does not know 15 colors but she can name the primary colors and she understands some comments in spanish
she can do these things because of the fact we chalange her and she had a spanish nannie for the first year who gave her one on one attention keep goign with her it will help in school now they are teaching kids to spell words like friend in kindergarden so all the more she learns now will make it easier in school for her

I would say she definately is a smart and helpful little girl. My children are ahead of others in most things but I am just letting it ride until school to see what happens from there. I have read though that children are capable of absorbing more before pre-primary so we probably should be helping them more now.

First of all, Congrats for having a genius child!!! Me too have a 2 year old son but not similar to your child...Totally opposite from what i hear ...I strongly believe that maybe your child is extra intelligent where need not to be taught to do such stuffs..Normally, children are being supervised and taught by parents on each of their behaviors but it's different in your child case... Dun worry but feel grate full to god that you have gotten a genius child where not all parents could have such a child....

I work in child care and it sounds to me like your daughter is a pretty smart little girl. Some of the things you metioned (like please and thank you and picking up) are things that are usually learned by mimicking those around her, so props for being a good teacher. As for the other things, especially the counting, it sounds like she is a little ahead of the norm. (although many 2 yr olds can name alot of animals, and learn words quickly)Keep challanging her and she will continue to learn quicky.

i would say your child is gifted. my son is 4 and in head start and he is not that advanced and he is advanced for his age. What ever you are doing keep up the good work. The numbers and colours is what really stuck out to me. my only question is does she know her ABC's yet if so i think you might have a genius
