hey i am over 24 living in nyc (queens) trying to buy auto insurance which is the best one...allstate, geico, the car is used but close to new..and i got my lisence not too long ago.

Insurance is insurance among the large companies. You just need to find which company offers you the lowest rate for your zip code, gender, vehicle, driving record, etc. You may want to try getting a quote online. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before.

When I lived in NYC, I had Allstate first, then switched to Geico since their rates were lower and offered a more user-friendly payment plan. (Of course, I was married, over thirty and had been driving for fifteen years; my ex-wife was a new driver, but they didn't hold that against us - no premium increases or penalties were asssessed).
As far as claim resolution, I don't know which is better since I didn't have any claims.

Car insurance acts like a great friend at the time of crisis. It covers the losses made in an accident and thus saves you from paying out the huge sum from your pocket. However, there does also need to be insurance on the car itself, so the owner of the car needs to take out a policy to cover it. The extension is just there in case you need to drive the car and are not a named driver under the owner's policy. One thing to bear in mind though is that you are only getting third party only cover under this extension, regardless of the cover you have on your own car, so if you have an accident, the insurer will pay out for damage to anyone else's car or property if you are to blame, but you will have to foot the bill for damage to the car you are driving under the extension yourself.
