I think it shouldnt be just U.S. troops, it shoudl be a coalition thats created. Smaller units that are backed by the latest intel and technology.
Thats where we should be bugging telephone lines, intercepting phone and radio transmissions, andmonitoring any internet activity both incoming and outgoing.

U.S. troops should be moved to a temporary or even a permanaent based in a safe location around the borders.
But in a safe location with a safe boundary out of mortar shelling proximity.

AND, iraq police should be placed on all main roads used, while unmanned trucks drive through daily to deter the IED's that are killing off our troops

That would take care of all concerns right there.
#1 U.S. troops arent suffering the massive casualties during the civil war.
#2 U.S. troops are safe
#3 Coalition formed would show this is unified coalition, and its not even in the 10's of thousands of troops needed.

Build up around the borders, contain the main areas, and use technology to monitor the difficult terrained areas.

Then begin severe diplomacy talks, that would not have an urgency to it. Iraq either would want or wont want to work for their own peace. But no one else but Iraqis would be suffering the losses.

Counter terrorism coalition would work to neutralize the area, along with Iraqi army and police.

Possibly a U.N. task force that would oversea the policing efforts to maintain that there are true police officers workign for peace and no corruption within the IRAQI police department.

But right now as is, makes no sense, as its as simple as america is like a police department with only 100 soldiers sent in to a neighborhood like compton, where theres 5,000 bloods and 10000 crypts fighting.

To put any police in the middle of that on an every day basis, is just insane.

Al-qaeda wasn't in iraq until we invaded Iraq and toppled saddam. That being said, I am a war critic but we can't leave iraq at all now. We have completely destroyed the country and as soon as we leave iran will take over. The so called war on terror had nothing to do with Iraq until we invaded and brought the terrorists there, so now for probably the next 50yrs we will be in Iraq trying to fix the mess that we created.

It's as good a place as any any better than some others. Alqaida presence in Iraq is probably limited but the same could be said about non-arab Afghanistan.

I have no idea what critics think about islamofascist terrorism, if that was your question, let alone if they prefer Americans should lay back and enjoy it or what.

Funny I thought the reason we went to Iraq was to decrease terrorism but all it has done is increase the number of willing recruits ready to sign up.So instead of getting rid of the threat it has grown even stronger there was no Al-Queda in Iraq when Saddam was in power but it is thriving now.Well done Bush for opening the door for them.

No, they want us to come home and continue communicating with al-Qaeda like on 9-11.

If you guys think that al-Qaeda has nothing to do with Iraq, I think you are wrong. al-Qaeda or similar is in every muslim country that hates the west, not because of our politics, but because they think we are infidels. They will always wish to kill and destroy us, and its better we take the fight to them, then way for them to bring it back to us.

has everybody forgotten that al-qaeda is everywhere! they associate themselves with anybody that has the same goals as them. influence governments into a pro-islamic state, like the MILF.

No, The Bush administration has done a great job of turning the word insurgent into the word al-Qaeda. I am not buying it.

I don't. We are barely fighting Al-Qaeda there now, we are just fighting local insurgents that want us the hell out so they can rule.
