I have some neighbors that know people in law enforcement, they say I have a report under my name that states I solicited a minor online. They have told all the neighbors and now threaten to send the report to my daughter. Can they do this? How do I check to see if there is a report?

It depends. If the story is false, you've got nothing to worry about.
On the other hand, if it's true, I'd say you may have more than one
problem. To find out if there is a report, you can try calling the local
police or sheriff's office.

If you have solicited a minor & faced charges, it is possible that you are a registered sex offender and it has nothing to do with your neigbors friends in law enforcement. If there is a police report, the 1st page (basic information) of the report (in texas) is a matter of public record. If they have a report they are threatening to send to your daughter (and not just aproaching her verbally) then more than likely a report does exist. It seems a bit far fetched for a neighbor to just make up this sort of thing. If you do not believe this report does exist, and you have know knowledge of this, then you might ought to contact an attorney. Do they have a right to spread knowledge that is public record, yes. Is it right, not really, it's a bit on the gossipy side. But if they feel that you're a threat to the neighborhood children, then they may very well feel justified in trying to make you uncomfortable enough to move away.

Me being me, I just kind of detect that maybe there is a report out there, at least alleging that you have solicited a minor, otherwise they would not be threatening to SEND or show it to your daughter, they would be threatening to TELL her of these charges.

You know if the incident happened or not. If it didn't, first thing I'd do is contact your local police and find out if it is YOU the report is referring to and not someone else with the same name, different address. While there, inform the officer you want to start a harassment complaint against the neighbor spreading this information. You can have them call the neighbor, or go out and confront the neighbor. You also have the option to go to your local court house or magistrate and request for a restraining order. If all fails and the information is in fact a lie that they're spreading, you may want to retain a lawyer and sue for defamation.
The thing you do not want to do is confront your neighbor and escalate things. Also, laws and procedures vary from state to state, you may want to research further to see what you need for your state.

you can go to your local police station and usually you can request any and all records that involve you, most reports that are no longer under investigation are up for anyone to get copies of. i'm not for sure if all this is true for all cities, but that's how we do it at my PD. and for what it's worth... if it's for soliciting a minor online, if you actually did it and it was worth their time to do a report.. you'd be in jail. but check with the PD and find out before you freak. :)
