There is no conflict between the angel’s instructions to Mary (“you are to call his name Jesus”) and Isaiah’s prophecy (“she will certainly call his name Immanuel”), The Messiah was also called other names see Luke 1:31. Isaiah 9:6 says his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. None none of these names were given to Mary’s firstborn as personal names, they were all prophetic title-names by which Messiah would be identified. Jesus lived up to the meaning of these names in every respect, and that is the sense in which they were prophetically given, to show his qualities and the good offices he would perform toward all those accepting him as Messiah. So also with his title Immanuel. He measured up to and fulfilled its meaning.

Very old question. The scripture does not say "will NAME him Immanuel" it says they will CALL him Immanuel. Besides, in Matthew 1:21 an angel says, "And she will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins". Hence it wasn't like Mary and Joseph said, "I don't like the name Immanuel, how about Jesus?"..... No, it was the angel from God who instructed to call him Jesus, and if the angel was indeed from God, then it was God's wish that the boy be named Jesus. How then can you rightly say that a mistake was made? Besides, the Christians call Jesus God with Us, and there are songs calling him Immanuel, hence the prophecy is fulfilled and Jesus IS called Immanuel.

Yes, it is interesting; the name Immanuel and that it is Jesus. What does that tell us about Jesus when we read Isaiah 7:14?

The prophets told us Emmanuel would be born of a virgin. Jesus was born of a virgin and was called Emmanuel according to scriptures.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Immanuel means "God with us". Jesus, as the Son of God = God/man was with us (mankind) when He was on the earth around 2000 years ago.Jesus, as God, was among us and did save us from our sins. No mortal human could do that.

i love jesus for his parabells ,but reading between the lines ,he didnt begin his ministry till john died ,just as paul/saul wrote most of the rest of the new testiment

i am sure that the fortold one who ate honey and loquests was the one called ,but that the plan was for jesus to do as he did/said ,as was it gods plan that saul /paul finish the text ,saul; was sworn ennimy of jesu ,and returned much of the jewishness into jesus teaching

but recall six mounths prior jesu birth ,was john concieved ,the fists child born to an [87?] years old priestess and her husband also of the line of david ,the referance to virgin possably a corruption of first born/first to be born from the line ,but that is just usless speculation

neither here nor there in matter of fact ,jesus did that which needed to be revealed ,and all else is speculation regardless one may have been killed by the lobby of his own the other by the hands of he that imprisoned the baptiser

we are not to know ,but can know jesus ,can know god ,the god of love that gave the new covenant through the christ ;the son of the father ,who revealed the god of love of neighbour and the love of self ,that christ died and was born again as we all are, shall be.

that our fathers house has many rooms ,and that the field of wheat jesu planted would in time be over sewn by satan [or saul ] or other hand
and that just as his fathers house of the jews would in time be divided into the different groups called doves ,sheep etc ,so would any church founded by christ ,thus did christ not want any church ,saying our father is a living father that we would know him by his signs;life ,love light and truth
god indeed is with us all

read rev 21/22 we are gods throne [life] god is the life in us all.
the god of the living not the dead.

Yes, Jesus was called Immanuel. He was called God. He was named Jesus. There is no problem.

Being called something and being named something are two different things. Jesus was and is called God, even to this day.
