I'm 26 years old with two children.....I have been smoking since i was 12 years old....I'm so ready to quit before my kids get old enough to really be interested in smoking.....It disgust me anymore and yet i pick another one up to light it....UGH! I don't smoke around my children and my husband doesn't smoke...Not only do I want to do this for my kids but for me also! anyone have any suggestions and the products or ways of quitting? There is supposed to be a new pill out that basically makes u sick if you smoke, I can't remember the name of it but I hear it works wonders....any suggestions will HELP greatly!!! thanks:)

All those products out there are just trying to take your money away. The tried and true method amongst everyone I know, including me, who managed to quit was cold turkey. It is NOT easy BUT, with support and a good mind set it is possible. Talk with your husband, let him know what you want to do and ask him to help. It isn't about breaking the cigarettes in your face or whatever, just being there to distract you when you have a weak moment. Talk to your friends, ask for the same help. When I did it I found two things helped me a lot (smoked for seven years at a pack a day)...

1. motivation - it sounds like you already have this with your kids - every time you are desperate, just go spend some time with your kids and remember that you are doing it for both them and you

2. distractions - the time I found it hardest to keep going cold turkey was when I didn't have anything to do. Keep yourself busy!

3. avoid common smoking times - if you always have a cigarette after dinner, try and find another habit to get past this - a walk outside is always a good thing

4. take yourself out of situations where you might be tempted - going to the bar is the best example of this - don't go until you are sure you can stand to be around a lot of smokers and not feel tempted yourself

5. start exercising - if you aren't already living an active lifestyle, start doing some daily exercise. This not only helps you to quit by distracting you and keeping you busy, but is also good for your health

6. if you have one, don't get discouraged - very few people manage to go cold turkey all at once. If you make it an entire day and then breakdown the next day and have one don't feel bad - it happens - figure out why you broke down and then start again and make sure this time that the reason doesn't happen again

The hardest part of quitting is the first 72 hours. If you can make it through 72 hours without smoking, you are almost guaranteed to quit.

Secondly, go through this... 1) No. 2) Quite the opposite. 3) Quitting smoking, or better still not taking it up, is the best thing you can do to reduce your risk of developing lung cancer. 4) Around 80% of all lung cancer deaths are the direct result of tobacco smoking. 5) There is no evidence that quitting smoking can cause lung cancer. In fact, the body starts repairing the damage caused by smoking from the day a person quits. 6) Quitting at any age will improve your health; the greatest benefits are experienced by those who quit smoking earlier in life. 7) For most people, quitting smoking will have their risk of lung cancer after 10 years. 8) The body of scientific evidence is clear that smoking is far and away the leading cause of lung cancer. I quit smoking cold turkey (started smoking at 12 too and quit at 28 years old). I did use something called "Smoking Withdraw" by NatraBio (in the organic isle of my grocery store); it helped my cravings a little.

The best advice I can give you is: replace your cigerette with something to distract you from your craving. I got up and got a glas of selzer with a splash of pure cranberry juice and piece of lemmon. It served two purposes: 1 to distract me and 2 to help clear the nicotine out of my system. Whenever you get a craving make sure you remind yourself it will pass in a few minutes. I said in my head three times "this two shall pass". My final advice, get plenty of exercise. It will minumize your weight gain and releve your symptoms.

You are doing a great thing and will enjoy the way you feel when your not hacking in the morning. Your skin will be radiant. Your husband will love the fact you don't smell or taste like an ash tray.(Please don't get offended, Its just a litte modivated.)

-Ask others who have quit how they handled withdrawal symptoms – both psychological and physical.
-Learn new behaviors.
-If you’ve tried quitting before, identify what did and didn’t work for you. Build on your strengths and discover new techniques.-

Nicotine Anonymous. Look up local meetings in your area and go. Also, get a support system in place. Someone (or 2 or 3) that you can call any time of day or night when you want to smoke.

i have an uncle who smoked 4 packs a day for 26 years and was told to quit or he was gonna die soon. he tried on his own and only lasted a couple of days. so his friend goes to this guy in Springfield Missouri and for $80 he hypnotizes him and he quit. its been 3 mos. for him. so then my uncle goes, and he quit! its been a month and a half. i am going to him as soon as my uncle gives me the number.click on my name at left and give me your e-mail if you want the number to this guy.

jesus christ! twleve?!
well, going cold turkey won't do it.
gradually reduce the amount of sticks you puff, like a stick less a day.
smoke on predetermined times, like every hour or so so that your brain will get used to the nicotine dosage and gradually replace it with dopamine.

when you feel like smoking but have used up your alloted smoking dosage (lol) go do something that you have to put your mind into.

or you can have those patches or gum...

since you were 12? yikes. i smoked for 2 years and i quit 3 months ago. i just stopped buying them cold turkey. it's all in your head. thats what i found out. no one "needs" them, it's just one of those habits.

well i didnt quit they took me to the hospitol and jump started me, then later they had given me drugs to make my leg veins easy to pull out of my legs while others laid me back and took cutting instruments and pulled my heart from ym chest so they could work on it while pump kept me alive with othe rpeoles blood, keep smoking thats where your heading do you want your kids motherless ?
