cutting grass if he or she is old enough.
Doing chores around the house for extra money.
Babysitting for short periods of time.
Pet sitting.
Collecting the mail and the paper for an elderly neighbor.
Or volunteering at nursing homes is always nice.

Congrats on trying to teach your child to work. So many people want to let them "be children" until they hit their 18th birthday and expect them to "get a job".
I took one of my son's friends out job hunting when he was 19, one year older than my son. I had to teach him how to fill out a job application. Having been in the position of reviewing job applications, I can say that this young man's would have been trashed for misspelling, incomplete sentences and a host of other missing information.
My son had a job by 10. I think he may have been as young as 8. We had a local newspaper. He folded and threw the paper in the neighborhood. I doubt there are many of these left. I did have to help with the driving part. :)
End result: he's almost 27 and has 10 years experience on his job and has been selected to a supervisory position.
Meanwhile, most of his "buddies" that he is still in touch with are still moving from job to job and apartment to apartment.
Good luck!!!

Most employers don't hire 10 year olds because of the child labor laws. He can get a paper route but you will have to help him with that and YOU will be responsible for making sure he keeps his money straight. He can try doing yard work around the neighborhood, or dog walking. But there aren't many jobs out there for 10 year olds...again it's because of the child labor laws.

Certain jobs are legal for anyone over 10 but I don't think that anyone is resposible until at least 12. Get them to do chores around the house, washng up, washing clothes, sweeping and things like that and pay them pocket money.

I wouldn't have him get a REAL job...there are child labor laws against that. But he can do small things like mowing the grass, doing chores, or helping an elderly neighbor. If you have him volunteer at a nusing home, I'd have at leastsome supervision. He can't so things like changing bed pans or bathing the patients. But he could do other things.

I'm hoping you mean a job around the house. My 10yr old does dishes, folds laundry and sweeps the floor. A few chores are good for kids..

You can help him/her with a paper route.
Why would you want your 10 year old to have a job? What about doing chores around the house?

At 10 years old your kid is still a child, let him/her enjoy being a child because it wont last very long, most of us work until the age of 65, he or she will have plenty of time to work.
