About 3 weeks ago my dog was diagnosed with a spinal disease and became paralyzed in the back end overnight. The disease is cured and he's now healthy again and in no pain - he just can't use his back legs. I am waiting a few weeks to get a cart because there is a chance he may walk again. Right now I am using a sling for him to get around. He is a 2 year old Beagle mix and was pretty playful before this happened. Just wondering if anyone in the same situation or knew someone else taking care of a disabled animal, knew of any fun games or activities we could do within his limits to keep him happy and occupied. He's only two and I don't want his quality of life or happiness to diminish as a result of this. We got through the worst part together (pain and curing the disease) , I feel we can get through this part as well. We do a lot of phsical therapy every day but I want him to have some fun too. Any suggestions would help to keep him happy!! Thanks!

I have had two dachshunds thru the years that have went down in the rear, and both of them I was able to get back up and walking, our vet couldn't believe it. I spent alot of time in the tub with both of them manipulating their back legs and doing spinal massages, as well as giveing them a good source of pet vitamins, the first dog I done this with never went down again, the second one went part of the way down several times but always came back to normal, the best thing you can do for them is keep them as still as you can in a crate or whatever and take them out two to three times a day for the bath therapy. This may or may not work for your dog but it is worth a try, is this a disease or a vertabra problem? You will be able to tell when they are getting the feeling in their back legs if you tickle the hair between the pads of their back feet and they start pulling their foot away.
Good luck and I hope your dog is back up again before long.

at first i think of you're staggering in battling so hard to get her properly lower back. What I recommend is water treatment. i do no longer understand what breed she is ? If she is small then the bathtub bathtub be ok yet whilst she is enormous then you certainly might desire to discover someplace that has dogs swimming pools for this objective. Your vet ought to have a catalogue of animal treatment centres. very reliable good fortune x

get a cart= small toy and fix it up for him. the back legs would hang down on back of cart while his belly lays on small cart. hook a harness from cart forward so he would be pulling the cart. After a while you could set it up so he can go into pulling part of harness or back off to get out of it.

Go to a nursing home with him, he will get a lot of attention. They need someone who cares also.
