Cut down her food portions. A yorkie should weigh around 7 pounds and your yorkie is almost double her weight! Just like a human changing their eating habits to lose weight, it's going to be tough for her. But, she needs to lose the weight. 6 pounds over weight might not seem like a lot to most humans, but 6 pounds to a dog is like 60 pounds for a human.

Look on the side of the dog food you give her. On there somewhere, should be a feeding chart. It'll tell you how mouch you should be feeding her based on her weight. If it's anything around what my food says, you should be giving her 3/4s cup a day.

Don't keep her food bowl down all day. Start feeding her once in the morning and once at night and NOT a full bowl of food. Get a measuring cup and start measuring out her food. This will help more than anything. She will be acting like she is starving for a while once you start doing this. Yes, she is hungry, but DO NOT GIVE IN! If you don't help her lose weight, you will see a lot of health problems a lot earlier.

No more treats too. Let everyone in your family know this. She needs to lose half of her weight and feeding her treats all the time will not help.

Buy smaller treats or break the treat into smaller pieces, and give it less often. Control the meals, serving measured amounts at specific times, instead of leaving a big pile once a day.

You dog will learn to eat less after a week -- just dial down the amount gradually. It doesn't take much - even a 10% reduction can stabilize and lower the weight.

a trip to the vet is probably your best idea, but if you can't do that, feeding her smaller portions should help, and less treats will help out too. Taking her on walks, and having her run around is good.
