Oh my FSM, Eye Candy, you sound like you're as anal about that stuff as I am! The only thing you can do is politely ask them to stop, and if that doesn't work - get ready to scrap. I swear, I've done it. I would literally have no problem throwing a punch or two over it. That disgusting noise bothers me that badly, and there's absolutely no excuse in the world for making those groce-*** noises to begin with....

Edit: I hear you loud and clear, sweetie. Some people should have been born without mouths - rofl!!

When you two are eating alone just tell him politely that he makes a loud noise while chewing. Dont do it infront of people tho, he may get angry from embarassment. Just let him know , he should understand and stop or at least try if he's a true friend. Good Luck hun.

You call him a friend?
He is a PIG.
Say, "Hey why don't you take a smaller mouthful and keep your lips together, you make me want to puke, you are a disgusting table companion, ............but I like you."
If he is offended. fart big long and loud right beside him next time he eats.and smile

Either politely bring it to their attention. No one call tell you exactly, because you know the person and how to approach them in a way that won't tick them off.
Or
Learn to tune it out.

My son does that. He gobbles down his food very noisily. We'd all told him to stop. To no avail. He's going to be 16 this year. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it. Unlike your friend has.

Maybe you could tape record him secretly while he's eating. Then play it back for him. That should do it. Most people have NO idea what they sound like.

Just take him aside and ask him to be careful about it. Asking them to quit doing it in front of everyone might work, too, 'cos he might get embarrassed, and quit doing it in public.
Or you could just shove a roll of toilet paper in his mouth, or a wad of tissues. Or you could just gum tape his mouth shut.

If the sound comes from his/her mouth, then you are allowed to be blunt about it. If it comes from anywhere else, your only hope is to hint at medical attention.

Punching is an effective way to get one's point across.
