Anorexia is a mental disorder.

Saying you hate Anorexics is the same as saying you hate people with depression. Do you think that it's okay to hate people with mental illness, because I don't.

Read up about Anorexia before you judge. Do you think Anorexics like being that way? They feel bad enough already, without ignorant people like you unfairly judging them and being so cruel and harsh!

Take care.

I used to be anorexic but am in my second year of recovery. Its a disease if you consider depression, anxiety, addiction or anything of that nature a disease. Just like you can't tell a clinically depressed person to snap out of it, you can;t tell a person suffering from anorexia to just eat. Even though I am eating normally now, I am still tortured by the mental part of the disease and that's something that I'm not sure ever changes. It's something that once you slip into for whatever reason, changes you for the rest of your life. Anorexia is not just vanity, and if you have never expierenced this consider yourself lucky for not having to be put through the pain.

I am disgusted by all you people that have said that you "hate anorexics" that is a horrible thing to say. I am trying to recover from anorexia and let me tell you I am not a "bratty teengager looking for attention" I may have chosen to cut out foods at the beginning but i didn't choose to become very underweight and being scared to eat in fear of putting on weight. Anorexia is a mental illness and should be taken seriously .If anoretics could snap out of it by eating then there wouldn't be a condition for it would there you stupid iggnorant person

I am not completetly positive but I do believe that it has been diagnosed as a mental disorder. A person has suffered some sort of mental trauma that they were able to control. Well eating is one thing that they can control. Don;t take what I say for granted I don't have a degree or anything but I did have a anorexic / belemic cousin that finally started to go to a therepist and she has started to eat again and is really finally looking healthy. Please don't judge a book by its cover

Yes it is a disease. It has signs and symptoms just like other illnesses. And it is NOT a choice. It is a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. To say that it is their fault is incorrect. So now I am happy to inform you that you no longer have to hate anorexics. But instead have sympathy for them and appreciate your own health.

Yes, it is a disease. Clearly you have never known any anorexic people. It's just not as simple as you make it sound.

Anorexia is a disease of the mind. However, there are people who like the condition. Proanorexia.com I think is one of their websites.

Anorexia is not a disease, but rather an act of stupidity, for people who are desperate to attain an idea of beauty and destroying the only beautiful thing they own, well that and common sense, which if they had they wouldn't be anorexic.

It is a disease, it's listed in the DSM-IV, which is the diagnostic manual for mental illnesses. It's not their fault, but it's hard not to blame them because it does seem like they are making the choice themselves.
