Why is it I usually only have a sore throat on one side (Right side) Along with it I have a sore neck and ear ache. I'm usually a healthy person and rarely ever got sick but in the past year I've had 4 sore throats, the first one was really bad, Really red with white spots, I could only eat soups & other such foods, and when I do get sick it always begins with a sore throat. Can anyone explain this?

Sounds like sinus infection and sinus drainage to me. Allergies can bring on sinus infection.

Miss Wong below is right too. Strep is going around in my town right now.

I always thought white spots were the sign of strep and my last two doctors gave me antibiotics without even testing me. My doctor for the last four years disagrees and gives me a strep test and it has been negative for the last four years. It was my sinuses. If you have any other symptoms with a sore throat it is usually not step. Gargle with brown Listerine, peroxide (diluted 50%), or sea salt water and take sudefed. You may want to get tested for allergies. That would make you sick all the time because if you are congested, the congestion gets in your ear and runs down your throat causing a sore throat. Yes, you still may have an infection. If you have a fever for more than a day see your doctor. Don't forget to drink a lot of fluids a fever coupled with decongestants will severely dehydrate you (as I learned last week when the doctor suggested I get an IV. I don't have insurance, so instead of going to the hospital my doctor told me to drink a lot water and Gatorade and told me to go to the hospital if my temperature did not go down by the end of the day. Turns out my temperature was due to dehydration. My temperature went down withing three hours of the 1/2 Gatorade;1/2 water mix). Soup also has a lot of salt and can contribute to your dehydration. Get a lower sodium soup and drink lots and lots of water (no juice, it contains too much sugar).

Antibodics are over perscribed and mostly given out to shut people up. We are hurting our imune systems and stengthinging the bacteria by taking them too often. You will also build up an imunity to antibodics.

I hope you feel better soon. Sorry for the long message; I'm very passionate about this subject.

This sometimes during a viral infection. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Red with white spots is strep throat. Only antibiotics will clear that up. You really should see your doctor because any untreated infection can hang on and cause further problems. Go have it looked at!
