maybe people get defensive because you say stuff like, "I believe religion is an evil to mankind."

Well, remind them that they were once bad people too. I can't tell you how many "religious" people are genuinely afraid of "bad" people. But what they lack is the love that Jesus had. Jesus hung out with prostitutes and tax collectors.
According the Bible, we're all bad people until we are born again through Jesus. "For all have sinned," it says in Romans 3:23. "Religion" is the tradition accociated with Christianity. Lots of times, this vain tradition blinds us to the real love of God.
"My beliefs are right, and yours are wrong." It should be that this statement leads to love and caring, not hatred and contempt. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often.

I don't know. Maybe the same reason you said all religious people assume you're a bad person. I'm sure you're not (I'm not religious by the way) and I'm fairly sure not all religious people assume you're bad. If they do, who cares? They're self righteous idiots who generalize.
If someone is truly religious and happy in that belief, they wouldn't get defensive or mad. You're encountering some unreligious people. Hate to break that to you. Those people would be that way with or without religion. Religion just makes it eaisier for them to be judgemental. Don't blame the idea, blame the idiot using the idea to be an idiot.

Everything is bad in the hands of bad/ uneducated/ evil men. Religion is supposed to help people become better, but people are people, they used it so many times to gain more power over other people and to get richer. Religion is not evil, people are evil. You know, it's more like "guns don't kill people; people kill people".

Thank you for stereotyping. Maybe that's why.
I'm religious and I believe there is good in everyone in the (ohmygosh, can you believe it?!?!) non-religious way, but the sociological way.
Even though I can't stand your question, I don't believe you're a bad person. You just need to stop generalizing everyone and discriminating. Not everyone does a one same thing unless it's basic needs, eating, sleeping, breathing, etc.

I am not religious myself, but religion has brought good into many people I know, and they are better persons because of it. It's the hypocrites that get carried away and start getting anal on everyone. Jesus shunned those folks when he was here, and I think he still would if he was here today.

I have the same problem. I asked Atheists a non threatening question, and they bombed me. I asked Christians, they bombed me. Only the Pagans were nice to me.
I hate religion and always have. That doesn't mean I don't believe in God either. I just don't adhere to dogma.

People who get angry when asked questions over religion get angry because they aren't smart enough to answer. not saying that all religious people are stupid, but just that those who get pissy at the first mention of their faith.

Whatever one sees is a relection of that human being.
Religion is not evil. Many of the priests, heads of religions are not fit for their chair.

"I believe religion is an evil to mankind."
Nice. You just answered your own question. You think that religion is bad, therefore, everyone that has a religion is bad.
Welcome to the human race, brother.
