Why not do it in Excel then copy to Word?

In Excel, type your data. Be sure to have column headers.
When finished, select the headers and data, then click the "Chart Wizard" button. It makes it very easy. When finished, if you want it in Word, just select the graph. It works like any other graphic. Cut or copy and paste into Word.
