I guess this question really depends on the rules set for each style of martial arts. I have studied various styles and have earned black belts in Goju-Shorin Karate Do as well as Tae Kwon Do. In all the styles I've ever done each style DOES ALLOW contact to the face and ALL areas for that matter. Each tournament or fight however may set rules for safety. All styles actually use knees and elbows as well. As one progresses in any martial arts you will find that they all gel together in the end. They just emphasize different things in the progress. There is even grappling and joint locks in Karate and Tae Kwon Do.

It's hard to judge the style for those reasons if you look at a straight up fight BUT if you look at simply TV kickboxing versus Muay Thai then sure the Muay Thai would have to wear you down faster. A typical muay thai fighter would probably have a shorter career for that reason if you base it on just typical TV Kickboxing versus typical muay thai.

So the real question goes back to how much conditioning the person has. Obviously the more conditioned athlete will win. This includes experience/knowledge, neuromuscular, strength, endurance, bone density, passion, and more. There must be balance. The combination of physical health, mental health, and spiritual health makes the martial artist complete.

You would have to find an arena where both artists must follow the same rules to find out who is the better martial artist. Hence the UFC etc ..............

just my 2 cents worth...
Have a great weekend everyone!

Traditional Karate, welp Thai would win as proven 8 outa ten times. Remember San Shou just defeated Thai after many years Thai has dominated the stand up game. No matter opinion, facts are Thai has been a dominating force in the stand up game.
It's prob one of the best stand up games available.

it depends on the fighter.. some of the top full contact kickboxing champions have a karate background.. including a good mate of mine.. overall though .. an average muay thai fighter would easily beat an average karate fighter I think.. because muay thai is a more agressive form and includes more lethal moves.. like elbow strikes.. and knee strikes.. which are not legal in karate.. and not taught.. I've seen a little guy of around 70kg and 5"6 snap a 6"5 110kg monster's jaw off his head.. with an elbow strike.. the big guy tried to bully us over a game of pool.. BIG mistake as we're all trained fighters but he was a big guy.. and my mate knocked him unconscious with an elbow strike.. he is a thai fighter..

As a participant in the point fighting karate tourneys of the '60s, we were taught 'control', so that by controlling our strikes you should be able to stop your punch or kick one inch from target. So was the theory. But again, in the male psychology of one-upmanship, a lot of fighters got robbed and settled it outside in the street or back alley - to prove who really won. The in the late '60s early '70s contact was becoming more popular and chest protectors were 'de riguer' in all karate dojos. Things got out of hand as there were some serious injuries. Not that us karate enthusiasts minded, that was realistic training for a street encounter (martial arts are not sports remember) - it just bugged the lawyers who like to sue everything and everybody. The martial arts craze died down in the USA in the 1990s and has never really recovered. But traditional karate is very dangerous and realistic, but today its more like dancing.

i perfer muay thai but to each his own

a good number of times more gyms with boxing/thai boxing train harder than a normal [american]dojo for traditional arts. so boxers are known for their conditioning and endurance. but this isnt always the case becuz some place can train as hard or harder than a boxer. so it just depends on the person using it and how much practice you put into it

Full Contact Karate is for BITCHES. They don't even allow punches to the face. Those lard *** just sit there banging on each others' stomaches then throw a kick and separate.
