Birds become devastated at the loss of a companion, and even a change in the household (like the loss of any person or pet they normally see around) makes them nervous. I would hold off on getting a new companion, because think about it. If you just lost someone you lived with and loved, because budgies and parrots in general bond very strongly, you wouldn't necessarily want a new companion trying to fill this void.

The first thing I did at the loss of my hen in a mated pair was I took the male out. When a bird's companion dies, they're obviously lonely. They want and need companionship and love to make them feel better. I spent an entire day with my single bird out of his cage, talking to him, playing with him, and having him sit with me. Birds will likely become lethargic, quiet, and overall sad, but it does pass and they will return to their normal playful selves in due time. Over time, I taught him to be more independent. While he did have other flock mates (as yours does at the moment), he was still lonely. I weaned him from a full day out of the cage to 3/4 of the day out of his cage, then 1/2 the day, then 1/4 and it was back to his normal time. You'll want to give her lots of love and show her you, as a flock mate, will be comforting to her.

Also, if she's being unwelcoming to this new bird, I would definitely cage them separately for now, but I would place the cages side by side. She'll probably want to communicate, but she may not want another bird on her "territory" yet.

bird become very stress at say a loss of a companion, even to a loss of a pet you had like a dog, cat someone that they are use to be around suddenly gone. They can become very depressed. Watch her for a couple days and you might need to consider a new pal for her , i am sry to hear about your male :( good luck

Changes in environment is stressful to birds.

Give her two or three days to become acclimated to the loss of her friend.

If she continues to not do so well then place the nirror in the cage.

I donlt like mirrors because the birds interact with the bird in the mirror instead of interacting with me. I like to take my lutino budgie out of the cage and play with it.

Have you tried putting a mirror in the cage? My budgie loved to talk to himself in the mirror.

Well youd be sad to if your boyfriend died. to in troduce new birds take your time a couple of moths if need to put in separate cages near one another line of site and let them " date " each other with short times together outside cages ,Also make sure you arrange a escape call to help them out .Meaning if load calling /screaming at each other put them back in thier own cages and put them out of site of each other

That's normal. She's probably about to die. Feed her to a snake.
