Hair, on average, grows up to 1/2 inch per month, and there aren't many things a person can do to increase that number. However, there are things you can do to ensure steady hair growth. Frequent trimming is the most important. Get the ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks to avoid getting split ends, which can halt hair growth. Nutrition is also important. A lack of nutrients can slow down hair growth. Taking a multi-vitamin supplement may help your hair grow faster. Adequate sleep helps as well, since sleep helps regulate hormone levels.
The condition known as split ends, technically known as trichoptilosis, occurs when the hair has been stressed too much and the stress frays the ends of the hairstrand. Common causes of trichoptilosis include damage from heat styling, bleaching, coloring, and use of inferior haircare products. Although some products claim to repair split ends, this just isn't true. The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off.
Here are 10 tips for to keep your hair strong, smooth, shiny and beautiful!
1. Keep your diet balanced, and eat protein and calcium rich foods. Stay away from junk foods! This is essential for healthy hair.
2. Foods and supplements to nourish your hair:
Beans
Yogurt
Almonds
Vitamin B
Fish
And of course, the magic potion for beauty - WATER
3. Before washing your hair, comb it well to make sure all knots has been loosened from your hair.
4. Before applying shampoo, use warm water (35 to 38 degrees Celsius) to run through your hair to rinse and wet it thoroughly.
5. When applying shampoo or conditioner, don't use your fingernails to scrape through your hair. Instead, use your palm and fingertips to massage your scalp and hair gently, in circular motions. This will help the circulation and also help to keep your hair shiny and smooth.
6. After rinsing away all the shampoo, run water over your hair for at least another half a minute (3 minutes is best) to ensure there are no remains of shampoo remaining in your hair, since this will cause a great deal of damage to your scalp.
7. When applying hair treatment products, do so just after you have washed your hair, so that your hair can absorb all the good stuff while it is half wet. This will be the best time for it to absorb nourishment.
8. NEVER go to bed with your hair wet! Hair that is half wet is most easily broken, and if you sleep during this time, your hair will be rubbing against each other, damaging your hair in the most terrible way.
9. Too much pressure may lead to hair loss! Relax... try some good relaxation methods such as soaking in a nice scented bath, listening to music, and eating healthy comfort foods such as strawberries and grapes.
10. Perming and coloring seriously damages your hair. Avoid it as much as possible. Also, when using hair setting products such as gel or putty, use as little as possible, because they hurt your scalp and hair. Wash them out thoroughly afterwards with a shampoo specially created for removing styling products.

I don't think it is really possible to make your hair grow faster, but you could make it grow healthier. I have long hair, and at a certain point, it starts getting unhealthy. Of course, trims are necessary to keep your hair healthy, but make sure that you aren't trimming your hair more than it grows. You can always ask your stylist to just trim the most minimal amount when you go in. For me, this is sometimes just half an inch. I also rarely style my hair using a blow dryer or heat. The more you use the blow dryer and heat with your hair, the more often you have to get trims, and the slower it will take for your hair to grow. I also wash my hair in the early evening so it has time to dry at night before I have to be anywhere. I wash my hair every other day, because washing too often will dry hair out. For the days I don't wash my hair, I just clip it up in the shower. Some new things that I am trying: Combing my wet hair with a pick instead of a brush because hair is more fragile when it is wet and the brush breaks hair easier. Good luck!

Brushing your hair once in the morning and evening improves the circulation in the scalp and makes your hair grow faster. Massaging the scalp with your fingertips also helps improve circulation.Do not blow dry your hair. If possible wash your hair only once a week, with cold water since hot water and harsh shampoos can damage the hair. Hope this link provides more cheap and natural remedies for hair growth at the link below.

I have tried two methods that worked:
1.Horse shampoo[yes, horse shampoo] it's called Mane n' Tail and comes in a big bottle, cond. are available too.
2.Animal placenta [eew, yeah i know] usually called 'mask placenta' and comes in a bottle with a light-yellowy substance inside.
Try to avoid hair products as much as you can, this makes build up and can slow your hairs process of growing and you might start to shed!!
Make sure to cut your tips only once every two months.Your hair will not only grow faster because of no split end blockage but it's a good way to cut your hair with out leaving it the same length.Once every two months!
hope this helped.
