I'm a junior in high school now and atteding both college and high school. I took the GED practice test to see if I could pass it easly. I exceeded with the test and people say that I should go on with the GED test to be finished with high school and just move on with college. I'm a little afraid that a University might not accept a GED. I know that people can attend college even without a high school diploma. I would rather go on with my career and recieve my Phd faster rather than worry about one more year in high school. So with getting my GED does it make me look less smart? Can I recieve scholarships and grants with a GED?

I never graduated highschool due to recieving an associate's degree from the community college before my high school years were up. Since I have college classes no one at work or college asks about high school- except where you went to high school. If you are going to a community college first then a GED should be fine. All the university will look at is the classes taken at college.

If you want to go straight to a university then you need to finish high school with a good GPA.

You also need to think about all those scholarships which are only available to high school seniors. Were you planning on applying for those?

On the other hand if you finish your education early then you will be making alot more money than you would probably get from scholarships.

Good luck :)

Many colleges will accept you with a GED but there is a stigma attached to it. GEDs are generally for people who get kicked out of school, can't finish, dropped out, or are raising kids. It is admirable that you are so excited to keep advancing in school and a career but I think you would be short changing yourself. Some high schools let you graduate with a real diploma in 3 years - that's what I did. Also, some will let you be a high school student but take full time college classes so you would be working towards both degrees at the same time. Check with a guidance counselor to see what options are available for you.

While most colleges accept a GED, a Diploma much better. Although no one will admit it, the admissions office at most universities will give preference to a diploma over a GED.

Talk to your guidance councilor. Each state and each college their own regulations. I suggest while you score high on the GED you finish high school and continue with college classes if you're able. Good luck.
