Is there any difference in a pony saddle and a horse saddle? It seems like any saddle with a seat smaller than 15" is considered a pony saddle. Does the term pony saddle mean youth saddle? Will one fit on a regular sized horse?

Not really. The difference is the size. A "youth" saddle is simply a saddle that fits better for a smaller rider. A pony saddle will fit on a horse but less comfortably. It will probably give the horse sores on his withers.

A saddle is made to fit the rider so that the bum sits in the middle of the seat and the knee is not over the front . A small rider cannot sit properly in a saddle that is too big.
A small saddle can certainly fit a horse as long as it does not touch the withers . A thoroughbred which has a high wither will perhaps be more difficult to fit a smaller saddle but there are many fittings sold now in these synthetic saddles . Go to a good saddler and they will advise .If you are looking for a reasonably priced saddle it better to go for a synthetic one as the position they put you in is perfect whereas some of the cheaper leather ones get your position all wrong

no the saddle is based on the horses size not the human
its just that usually the older the person the bigger the horse (so they are more adjusted and also so they can carry the weight)
im unsure whether a pony saddle will fit a regular sized horse - should though just aslong as you get a longer girth
