The exact details depend on state and legal code. You will want to contact a lawyer for your exact rights, as I am not a lawyer, and I cannot offer proper legal advice.
However, in a nutshell, the answer is yes. Social services can generally do whatever they see fit for the welfare of a child, and they are a powerful foe to tangle with. Again, if this has happened, talk to a lawyer at once.

yes they can for any reason they want, and they don't have to tell you why, if they do, it's probably a lie, but they will take your kids as long as you open the door and let them in.
DON'T DO THAT! DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR FOR THEM! MAKE THEM BRING BACK A WARRANT.
CPS has fuzzied up the rules for taking children from their parents to help them fill their headcount quota, thus securing their budget for the upcoming year. It's a joke, while there are a few foster homes out that that have good intentions, they are still just puppets of a very corrupt unaccountable system. I was a foster kid, I know all too well that about 1% of children die at the hands of their own parents, but 5% die in foster care and adoptive situations. Childrens Courts are kangaroo courts that rob parents of all constitutional rights. Don't let them in your house EVER! I know a woman who took in Foster kids for over 30 years, and she had only 1 family get their child back in her entire 30 year history of being a foster parent. Why do you think they have CASA's for kids in Foster care?? CASA's are advocates for the children. Why do the children need advocates when there is wonderfully effective CPS? Good question....hmmmm
If CPS was told they would get budget money based on reuniting families, it would be a whole different story folks. Think about it. Read Joseph Serandos writings about it "Call for Change" very eye opening.

Why would they be calling social services? They can always take your kids for a tox screening with a court order!
I never filed a petition against anyone who's house was raided, unless they found drugs, or the children had drugs in their system.
We did bust one idiot who was feeding his 16 year old daughter weed, along with her friends. We found all kinds of Paraphernalia and the idiot had 2 straggly plants in the closet! He was using an ordinary light bulb to help them grow!

There would have had to have been some information that lead to the warrant, which gave them grounds to raid your house. If they knew that children would be present, they would have brought in cps. If there was enough evidence to give them grounds for a raid, than more than likely cps has already begun an investigation, has grounds to be concerned about the welfare of your children. You don't have to have illegal substances in your house to lose your kids. If cps has reason to believe that your children are in danger, of any kind, they can take your children. What kind of state was your house in, are the children abused or neglected in any way. These are all factors, not just what they police may or may not have found. Once CPS has completed their investigation, if they find you have not abused, neglected or endangered your children, then they will be returned to you.

In a nutshell -- yes. The social services agencies in this country have more power than what is good for them. There are children in "protective services" that don't need to be there and there are children who are getting beaten and neglected and social services turns a blind eye to them. Of all the state systems in this country, Social Services needs the most overhauling.

you did not invite them so it is trespassing. Anything they may have found is "hear say" and there is a DOUBT that it was yours. They could have planted it on you or your house...so I wouldn't worry. I suggest getting an attorney to help clarify. Good luck to you!

They found drugs. Doesn't matter if it was 'personal use'.
Shouldn't be doing that if you are taking care of children.

If my houses was raided they would find something--a violent reaction from me. They would be taking me off to jail.
