I love a good hot baked potato!! Take and rinse potatoes well, then dry on a paper towel. Place potato in center of good size piece of foil & rub outside w/ a little butter. Sprinkle w/kosher salt & wrap up in foil. Bake @ 350 for an hour or so, turning every 20 minutes. Potatoes will "give" a little when gentley squeezed when they are done.

Baked in a 400 oven for about an hour!

But! I just in the past year discovered that if you wrap the potato in plastic wrap you can bake it in a microwave and make it come out the same way as if baked in a conventional oven!

Up til then, I didn't like potatos baked in a microwave, but, after I discovered the saran wrap or plastic wrap I like them more because you don't have to take up room in the conventional oven or wait as long.

Clean the potato under running water.and. dry . Rub a very light film of cooking oil onto the potato . bake in a 350 degree oven approx. 1 hour . Test with a fork .It should be soft to the center. Now you can eat the entire potato including the skin.

If it's a large baking potato, I wash it very well, rub the skin with just a bit of oil, prick it with a fork a few times so it won't explode, place it right on the oven rack, and bake at 350* for at least an hour.

Start by buying an Idaho Russet baker potatoes- has high solids which gives you a better product. Baking it can be done many ways but you must start with a good raw material.

If you want a soft skin you can wrap it in foil and bake it. If you want a tougher skin just put it in the oven as is. If wrapping in foil you could also lightly cover the skin in oil and rub salt or any spice that you may like over the skin then put it in the oven.
