You will need to convert the Adobe PDF file with a converter. There are a number to choose from and if you do a lot of this, it is not too expensive. check this link for a free trial.

With this link you can convert a file in a minute and it is free, for now. However, I can't guarantee that you will not be hit with advertisements once you use it. I tried it and it is good.

You need to have Adobe Acrobat. You can't copy and paste if you just have the Reader.

You have to use the Text Select tool in acrobat reader. This will do the copy portion.

It depends on how the document was created. Freebie programs that "print to PDF" don't typically create PDFs that you can highlight the text to copy, kind of like an image. Documents converted from Word from official converting apps like Acrobat will allow highlighting the text. In other words, the problem isn't on your end if the text won't highlight to copy/paste.

click on the text icon on acrobat reader that lets you select text, then you can copy the selected text and paste it on word
