I just shaved my head completely because it itches and caused flakes even though I use a Wal-Mart-brand dandruff shampoo. Anyway, I found red-looking stuff on my head and were rounded? Is it normal or not to be on the scalp? Is it ringworm? If so, how do I naturally treat it? Do you or anyone you know have this type of problem?

If it is ringworm, how in the world did I get it and how it can be prevented?

If you didn't have bald places where the red patches are it's probably not ringworm. It could be eczema or psoriasis though. The best thing to do is check out these photos and descriptions and see which seems the closest to what you have.

Ther are some things you can do to help relieve the itch but you may need to see a doctor for a definite diagnosis. However, don't worry - none of them are horrible, life threatening or scary. Just annoying as hell!

Ringworm is a fungus that grows, usually, in a circular pattern. Did you have any hair loss on your head before you shaved it? If not, it most likely isn't ringworm. If it were ringworm, you would most likely treat it with an anti-fungal cream, which you can get over the counter (athlete's foot cream can work). However the best thing is to go to the doctor and get an oral anti-fungal. Ringworm can spread all over your entire body, and can become very painful.

You can get ringworm from contact with the fungus, usually it is from stray cats or outdoor cats, or children who play in sandboxes or dig in dirt.

It doesn't sound like this is your problem, however, because ringworm doesn't usually flake. It does, however, sound like sebboriac dermatitus. (That may be spelled wrong.) It could also be Psoriasis. These are both conditions that need to be treated with special medicated shampoos that are only available through your doctor. Over the counter medications do not help, despite the label claims.

I recommend seeing a doctor or a dermatologist to get a definative diagnosis. Google search can help you find images of the above conditions to help you determine for yourself what your condition may be.

Good luck!

Ringworm looks like big bright red circles. Bite your arm hard. Does your rash look like the bite mark on your arm?

If yes, it's fungal. Get some Lotramin foot cream. Or smear yogurt on it (the active cultures in yogurt feed on fungus). Kids and pets are the most likely carriers.

If no, try cortizone and Eucerin cream.

It sounds like it could be Sebhorreic Dermatitis. I suffer from it pretty badly, especially along the front of my hairline and even around my ears. If you go and see your GP they'll probably give you a prescription for a shampoo like Nizoral (contains a chemical to help alleviate the symptoms) and possibly even a steroid ointment to apply. The Nizoral shampoo works brilliantly and after a while of using it (every few days...2-3 times a week) you can stop and switch to something like Head and Shoulders or another anti-dandruff shampoo.

Could be black fly, tick, or possibly ringworm - is there a "dot" in the center? Bring the dog in and have your vet tell you how to tell tick from black fly from ringworm. My dog gets red circles and dots a lot - all have been black fly.

Ringworm is caused by a fungus maybe vinegar would help. I would highly recomend you go to a Dr. as a prescription cream would work wonderful and ringworm is contagious.
