I used to not take care of my teeth when I was younger but since I noticed some starting to get pretty wobbly I started to try to do better. It isn't doing any good. My mom took me to a dentist a couple weeks ago but we don't have dental, and it's gonna cost a lot cuz I have alot of cavities. He also said I have a pretty bad case of gum disease for somebody my age and I'll probly be losing some teeth soon. I thought he was just trying to scare me, which he did, but 1 of my front teeth actually came out today. I mean the whole tooth fell right out when I bit into a sandwich. We can't afford those treatments and they aren't even garanteed to work anyways. Can I really lose all of my teeth at my age? I'm freaking out cuz I have a front tooth missing now. I know my teeth looked like crap before, but now I'm losing them. The dentist told my mom when we were there before that the other option was to pull the worst ones and try to save some of the rest. I didn't think he was really serious.

Sherri you might be right cuz the 2 next to the hole where the tooth came out are really wobbly. I mean they're so loose they move when I talk. I got a couple bottom front teeth almost as bad too.

Hi amber. Yes you can really lose your teeth even if you're just 14. Your dentist is not scaring you and I understand your predicament with your financial situation. You would probably agree that your family doesn't prioritize dental care that most of your expenses goes to basic everyday needs.
Do take the advise of your dentist to pull the worst ones and save the rest because no matter how hard or good you floss and brush now, there's already significant bone loss Your condition is not reversible anymore unless you replace the bone that you lost to anchor the teeth. Do what you can to save the teeth that is not wobbly. Start to practice good oral hygiene so as not to worsen the situation. For your treatments, schedule them with your mom a little at a time. You don't have to undergo ALL treatments at the same time. Start with the immediate concern then go along until all treatments are finished. It would be less of a financial burden and you get to have your teeth fixed. Hope this helps.

Hunny I'm really sorry to hear about your prediciment but you can lose all your teeth at any age. My father lost all his teeth by the time he was 16 because he didn't take care of them and ate a diet high in refined sugars.... he wore dentures from age 16 until the day he died.

The dentist wasn't trying to scare you or your mother- he told you the truth. If you can't afford dental care and don't have any insurance I would suggest that you or your Mom begin looking into what state funded dental care programs are available... A lot of them are based on income, but there are some out there that aren't. There are also supplemental insurance plans that are reasonably priced that help lower the overall cost of dental work. One such plan is Carrington...

It's a shame that your mother let you go so long without regular dental exams- this could have been prevented. Now that you're in this prediciment I suggest flossing and brushing every day... while this can't reverse the damage that's already been done it will prevent any further decay or erosion of the teeth that are still healthy while helping to heal your gums.

Were I in your shoes I would get into a state dental program and have them pull the teeth that can't be saved at this point and replace them with crowns or a partial... Either of these options will give you the appearance of a normal healthy smile.

From here on out- don't even think about going to bed or waking up in the morning without flossing and brushing your teeth thoroughly!

Best wishes to you- and again you have my sympathy as you've got a long list of unpleasant proceedures ahead of you!

Check with your local township for dental programs. Look it up on the web.
Dental Schools also do a great job.
I use a tip from a nutritionist between visits to get cleanings. At the health food store, in liquid form only is something called GoldenSeal. Mix it with water, it tastes bad. Soak your mouth. It is a chinese antioxin. It fights infections. Also, green teas calm my gums.
I get my teeth cleaned every 3 months. Sometimes meds, or just gentetics makes you prone to gum disease. If you are prone to it, you have to get your teeth cleaned often. Start flossing, it takes forever when you start, but in a couple of weeks, you will get real fast at it.
Sorry about the front tooth.

omg of course u can loose all of ur teeth. they might not all just fall out like that one, and might just rot below the gumline n need to b pulled. i have an uncle that didnt take care of his teeth at all n had to get them all removed. he now wears a big mustache to hide his lack of teeth n cant eat a lot of his favorite foods. u r lucky to live in a time where fake teeth r a lot more real looking. u will probably need to do a few different procedures over time to fix them, but at least u have gotten the message. the worst thing u can do is say 'oh well, i might as well not do anything bcuz they r so bad" but that will b worse. i used to go out w a really good lookin guy n found out he had some fake teeth, so, dont worry about not lookin good, u will get ur teeth fixed and take care of them 100 times better than u did b4 and look great. plus u wnt have the pain of a rotting or abcessed tooth to deal with! good luck, i hope everything turns out ok for u. try looking for dentists that help patients w finacial challenges or have a good payment plan, then work ur butt off to help ur mom pay for it!

You need to get the help. Money or no money, you have to find a way to fix the situation, or else you are going to have dentures by the time you graduate high school. Make sure you floss daily, brush for two minutes twice daily with a toothpaste that says "tartar control." If it doesn't say tartar control, don't buy it. Make sure you get everywhere. Don't make exceptions, do this everyday. Your gums WILL hurt, but the flossing is the most important, because it will firm up your gums. If you don't take care of your teeth, your mom will have to pay for dentures or false teeth, which are VERY EXPENSIVE.

I hate to tell you this but its better to go to the dentist and get the bad teeth out before it gets worse. If you turn up toothless or missing teeth its not the end of the world, there are guys that dont care if a girl doesnt have front teeth, my girl friend lost her front teeth in a car accident and I still love her and I do kiss her, I dont care if she becomes toothless. Answering your question, yes you can loose your teeth even at childhood if you have gum desease. As you describe its very probable that you loose the front ones

I sorry to hear about your tooth. I would definately look into denistry colleges in your city to get the cheapest care possible. My parents took me to one when my cousin was studying and they did a great job. Fillings are much easier to perform than a root canal, and you DO NOT want to get to that point. So get on it ASAP! In the mean time, brush and floss 2x a day.

And don't worry too much about the tooth you lost, take care of the ones you still have and keep smiling. There's no such thing as an imperfect smile.

Yes, you can lose them all or most of them if you don't do something pretty quick. It's probly too late for some, but maybe you can at least save some teeth. I had gum and teeth problems too and I waited too long do anything about mine and ended up losing my teeth at 15. Better hurry up and do something tho cuz once the first one came out mine went like dominoes.

He was serious. He was trying to give it to you straight, not just tell you scary stories.

You and your mom should try a dental college for treatment. You can get top notch care from students who are being supervised by a dental professor. The cost is generally minimal since they need the practice too.
Don't put this off. I know its expensive, but your teeth are supposed to last a lifetime...

Good luck.
