Ask yourself this:

If you were born on an island with only your Mother and Father whom had never heard of God, do you think you'd be asking this question? Of course not because you would have never heard of him before.

I generally do not answer questions like this, however there was something in your question which caused me to reply- so the short answer for your question is; for the most part, people don’t like the idea that there is only the here and now. They don’t like the idea that we are born, live and then die with nothing afterwards. Now for the part of your question that caught my eye. You seem to be implying that belief in a ‘God’ would necessitate a certain ignorance on the part of the believer, “they probably believe it too b/c they didn’t go to college”- if you look back in history at the intellectuals who were brought up to believe or came to believe in a ‘God’, then you can’t make that implication. If you look at what arguably are two of the most widely known scientist of the last century, Steven Hawkins and Albert Einstein- they too came to the conclusion of a ‘God’. Not necessarily the same God our fore fathers professed, but a ‘God’ none the less. An interesting little side note- In developing the theory of relativity, Einstein realized that the equations led to the conclusion that the universe had a beginning. He didn't like the idea of a beginning, because he thought one would have to conclude that the universe was created by God. So, he added a cosmological constant to the equation to attempt to get rid of the beginning. It didn’t matter how he tried, he was still left with his conclusion….. hope this helps……

I finished college, finished my doctorate as a scientist, became a university professor, and have a successful career working for a top scientific federal agency very well respected around the world for its scientific excellence.

I believe in the God of the Bible, because I have studied the Bible and find it the credible Word of God that explains reality far better than anything else ever written.

My parents never told me Santa Claus was real. They always told me Jesus was real. I always believed what they told me because they always told me the truth. To bad all kids don't have it as good as I did and still do.

Now that you know what I know what is your excuse for choosing to be dumb?

Now now, theres really no point in being so judgemental. And you make a few mistakes.

The biggest mistake is this "b/c they didnt go to college" thing. Going to college does not make you smart, it doesnt make you intelligent, and it doesnt make you anything except someone who went to college. There are tons of christians in this country who have gone to college. One has nothing to do with the other.

Now, yeah, basically youre right. People who believe in God are using religion as a way to explain the world that they live in and to get through life. In the old days people invented dozens of gods to explain things like rain and lightning. Today we know why lightning and rain happen, so those gods get forgotten and replaced. Nowadays people cling on to their god-of-choice because it gives them a guide through life and a hope for the future (going to heaven).

Its very hard for people to face up with the reality that there is no god, no devil, no heaven, no hell, no good, no evil, etc. Theyve been brought up with religion, and now they need to it survive. Without it theyd be lost and theyd feel their life was pointless.

Just be happy with the way you are, and dont be insulting to those who still believe in gods and such. Just because they have a different life-crutch than you or me doesnt mean either of us are better than them. They still have a right to believe what they want and not be called stupid or dumb.

Probably for the same reason people brush their teeth in the morning ... or go to the doctor when they're sick ... or treat with others with kindness ... or be racist. Everything anyone does is a reflection of how he or she was raised. I was raised in a Catholic home and I was taught to recognize God in my life. Had I not been raised that way, I may not believe. And I hate to tell you -- because you're in Middle School, and you clearly know everything -- but if your parents are raising you to believe in God, they should be commended. If more parents did that, there would be a lot fewer troubled children in the world. "God-fearing" people are more respectful of others, more respectful of themselves, and all-around better people. Your parents have the right to raise you how they want. Passing on beliefs, traits, etc. are what make people unique. You can do what you want with yourself when you're on your own, but for now soak in everything your parents are, so you can be a reflection of them. Someday you'll appreciate what they did for you. I'm 34 (and not a parent) and have realized that as a teenager much of what I hated about my parents, I thank them for now. Teenagers think they know everything, and I certainly remember thinking that my parents were idiots. Believe me ... believing in things is not dumb. Everybody believes in something, religious or not. I believe in myself and I don't think that's dumb. Many people believe in the American justice system and I wouldn't call them dumb. I don't personally believe its effective, so should I think the believers are dumb? Apparently you don't understand what beliefs are. If you seriously think that you can categorize someone as "really dumb" for "believing in things like that" you are not only ignorant, but extremely immature. You should be so lucky to know how to believe.

you're fairly suitable. human beings don't think in God through fact they opt to no longer, on the grounds that doing so might recommend that they can't sin anymore. i comprehend that could sound closed-minded, yet just to those that can't see. whilst human beings say that the enormous Bang replaced into an "boost," they do no longer seem to be addressing its considerable factor: the explosion that created the universe. i do no longer understand of any scientist available who might disagree with the thought the universe is increasing, yet you are able to't use that actuality to help the explosion of the enormous Bang. think of taking a stick of dynamite and throwing it right into a pile of paint cans, then having the explosion create a spattering of paint on a close-by wall which looks like the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Ridiculous, isn't it? properly, it fairly is not as far-fetched as an explosion becoming the universe, with all its attractiveness and order. The complexity of the structures interior of plant life, animals, or perhaps the earth all factor to layout, for they seem to be a lot extra complicated than something that ANY individual has created. Explosions do no longer create order; they convey about affliction.

Because they are scared, it's easier for someone to "know" what happens when they die or where they came from. Humans always want to know more and question everything, saying "God" did it is the simplist answer for these questions. But you shouldn't say they believe it because they didn't go to college, because even college graduates and professors believe in "God" they get scared too. It is a lot easier to face death if you think that you are going some where great. *But I'm glad they you believe what you want to believe, and at such a young age. That makes you very mature.*

I was never really taught about God when I was a child, but I had always believed in my heart that there was someone or something far greater than I could ever imagine. I believed there was a God because my heart told me so.

Most of us like to think that there is someone that will always care, always be there to listen to or lend a shoulder to cry on, we like being able to talk to our creator and ask for forgiveness to relieve our guilty conscience.

Belief in God gives us HOPE - and those who believe shall have eternal life in the kingdom of heaven with our God/Higher Power. I would much rather be in the arms of a loving God than in a dark and lonely place.

BTW, there is not mention of the word "hell" in the Bible - Only an absence from God.. More or less, complete utter despair.

Alot of people have the need to believe in something "Greater" than themselves. Believing in ANYTHING- isn't "dumb", it's just necessary for the spiritual well-being of the people who have that need. The World is an uncertain place...-& life isn't much better. You can dismiss God as being like "Santa Claus"... -But all the knoledge in the world isn't going to answer the hard questions you're going to face one day. -And THAT'S when you're going to start looking for answers not found in textbooks... :)

well personally, i agree with you but also be considerate of other's feelings. I agree that it is kind of silly to believe in god, but some people believe in him because well... they WANT to believe in him. And yes, probably some have been raised to believe in him. I always thought that the whole god thing, as well as santa, was kind of a lie. But that's just my opinion, and be careful about saying bad stuff about religion (even though i just did) because people do get offended very easily.
