are they good pets? how do they compare to other cats?

I have a Maine Coon/Himalayn mix. He is a very good pet. Very affectionate ,quiet--I can harldy hear him purr, fluffy, a real sweatheart. My other two cats are tabby mixes and also good cats, but I like the Maine Coon best. It is really a personal preference and all cats, regardless of breed, have their own personality. My personal opinion is that Siamese are the hardest cats to get along with, but others swear by them they are the best. Get what kind of cat you like, just make sure before you get it that it likes you, too.

I just love Maine Coons. I had one for 20 yrs who passed away last May. I now have 2 new ones, a 1 yr old & a 3 month old. Their personalities are more like dogs than cats. They are very sociable. Mine love to play fetch and love to petted. They interact with their owners more than other breeds. I'd highly recommend getting one. Good luck!

We had a maine coon that got out one day and coyotes killed him.
We were heart broken. He was the coolest, sweetest cat!!!
Very good pets! Very sweet, and clean cats and I dont know about all of them but mine didnt shed and get hair everywhere either.

My baby is 22 years old! They are the most loving,vocal, (almost human) cats on earth! Very gentle and so, so smart! Very good disposition and although protective of their "Master", also friendly(NOSY) with guests! They are almost like a dog as well! Greet you at the door, care where you were and what took so long to come back, kind of thing! They are beautiful, and you would never be sorry, if you chose this breed. Good luck!

If you are lucky enough to adopt a maincoone from a shelter then love it to death. They are gentle giants and you will love this cat so much.
If you are looking to buy one from a breeder then be careful and research well. There are many cross breeds that you will pay money for and not get a real bloodline.
I personally think a mutt is a better cat, Save one from a shelter.

maine coon cats are not only beautiful.they are very affectionete.funny.make very funny noises.the most loveable cat i have ever seen.mine thinks that i am his mother as i have had him since he was 5 weeks old.the best cat there is

I have two both are different in personality, love them to death, great pets, they are very loving ,one more than the other, but need lots of attention
