In what way is it helpful or meaningful? The concept of dying for other people's sins doesn't make any sense.

Was it Jesus' choice to be crucified?
In what way would it benefit others?
Wouldn't continued years preaching have been more useful?

If you committed a crime and were sentenced to death and someone decided to take your punishment upon himself and die in your place. Is that helpful or meaningful to you? Do you get a chance to live a new life without committing the crime again? Do you honor that person's unnecessary sacrifice for you by running out and committing the crime again? What does that act of sacrifice say about the person? Is he a crazy fool or does he genuinely care for you?

Jesus gave his life so we may be forgiven for our sins and live eternally with God in Heaven. Yes Jesus could have chose not to be crucified but his death was his gift to us so that we might live forever in Heaven free of sins, hate, pain, etc. I give thanks to the Lord. I ask for his forgiveness. We work and toil to have all these things on earth but they are really meaningless. Being the best Christian we can be and doing God's work are the only things that really matter. There rest is left for rust and moths. Possessions an money are meaningingless in the end. Lets all keep that in mind.

Yes it was God's choice to crucify Jesus that He may become the savior. However, the punishment for sin is eternal death so some how within a limited time frame Jesus was also punished equivalent to me spending an eternity under God's wrath for my sins if he died for me.

It means that all of us have violated the laws of a holy God. All have sinned. God is holy and sin cannot be in His presence. Sin must be judged. There is no possible way we can atone for our own offenses. How can sinful people spend eternity with God? This is why Jesus came - to take our punishment upon himself. God loves you so much that He provided a way for you to be reconciled to Him. Jesus was obedient to God and gave his life willfully. What He preached while He was on Earth was sufficient - as evidenced by the fact that more than 2,000 years later people are still listening to and reading and studying His word. His mission was two-fold - to give His life as a ransom for all who will turn back to Him, and also to teach us how to have life and have it more abundantly.

I also don't understand why blood atonement has anything to do with eternal life. I don't think the concept of sin is an eternal principle. Maybe bad choices or mistakes or ignorance is what most all people do. But, given eternity I think most people can learn to live a righteous life within the fraternity of intellegent beings. I also feel it is an offense to God to think that he would allow eternal suffering as in the conept of a hell. Seeing the vast diversity of beliefs on the earth I don't think one book, one man, or one church speaks exclusivly for God. I also think that there is no inhuman act that men do to each other, no suffering, no accident or misfortune that befalls us, that God will not make right in the eternities. I guess I sum up our purpose in this life is to just experience, to suffer, to be happy, to doubt, to discuss as in this forum, to experience a diversity of thoughts, and to die to be born again for new experiences in an after life. I believe the universe has an objective purpose not fully known to us at this time.

Jesus permitted himself to be put to death by the forces of evil.

Since no one, not even Satan, had the authority to take the life of a sinless man, let alone the only begotten son of God, the moment Jesus died, Satan was judged for his crime and all that he had earlier gained from Adam's sin was taken away from him.

Jesus was resurrected and installed as the new and sinless head of all mankind.

With Jesus in charge, man was given his freedom, and God was more than willing to forgive any man who rejected Satan, and swore faithful allegiance to Jesus.

Given its' authority directly by Jesus, the Church carries on the work of salvation in the world today, teaching and baptizing, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

This is how I see it:

Jesus was killed because he preached goodness and forgiveness never telling others he was God's son (that's why he was a Jew). People hated him for being TOO good or whatever.

People later considered he died for the sins of Adam and Eve (all they did was eat a 'bad' apple). Since Adam and Eve were the first two humans, they cursed the rest of the human race as sinful.

Jesus died for them - their sin is forgiven... and ours is forgiven.

Except... we still sin and are called sinners despite all of this. And are forced to CONFESS our sins even though Jesus died for them long ago and we're supposed to be forgiven the moment we sinful people are born.

He died for sins we still have. We are born with sin ANYWAY.

God sent Jesus down to do this unnecessary and idiotic task - Jesus has NO choice in the matter.

God's a GREAT father isn't he? Making his son die for no reason. He's OMNISCIENT. He already knows what's going to happen. And he's OMNIPOTENT - why'd he create sinful people in the FIRST PLACE and later make a son to go down to Earth and be killed by those sinful humans to forgive them while the entire time we are STILL blamed for sin?

...

It's ridiculous. This is just one more reason I am an atheist.

The law of GOD requires a sacrifice to atone for sin. The penalty for sin is death. That is the short version.
Without the sacrifice preaching would just be sounds bouncing off of def ears.

Shalom.

okay, in christian belief, which i am one, God sent Jesus here for the sole purpose to die on that cross. Jesus was the only sacrifice that would wipe the slate of sin clean. Think of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that who so believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." reason is because he was sinless. u see it wasnt a choice it was the only way to save us. his sacrifice, his blood saved our souls. before Jesus all went to hell, because of sin. well except for a handful, which were profits of God. so u see its the sacrifice he made for us. Jesus loves us so much and wanted us to have way to heaven. i hope this answered your questions, if you still want to know more please do.

Sin results in death.
Jesus shed His blood on the cross to pay the penalty for sin,was buried and rose three days later (from the dead).Because He was sinless death, hell and the grave couldn't hold Him.He ascended back to heaven. We only have to seek Him.Repent of our sins.God will forgive us.
