I am recently single after a 14 year relationship. He gets the kids everyother weekend. Here's my problem. When he has the kids I think that I have to go out and meet people, put myself out there. No one is going to come looking for me. And I am ready to meet someone again. But on alot of weekends, like tonight I just feel like staying home and watching movies in my p.j's. Is it normal to be so conflicted about that?

Dating, mingling and such shouldn't be stressful. You are now a single mom and if every other weekend you want to destress by being at home that is perfectly fine. And you never know...perhaps while going to the video store to rent a movie, going to the grocery store or something you might meet some friends. Also there is a site called www.meetup.com that has different interests. Maybe you could find one about movies or other interests of yours and do something more low key..or if you want to hang out at home but crave adult company, what about inviting someone over? No matter what, it's perfectly fine to have "me" time on those weekends, the rest of the time you are chef, driver, shoe finder, homework checker and a few dozen other titles :-)

You are totally normal. Do what feels comfortable at the time. If you stay home and watch movies that's good too. Getting out and meeting people is not your job -- just something you can do when you feel like it.

Absolutely normal and necessary! Embrace yourself as a person fearlessly living YOUR life. Most persons fear to be alone even more so to acknowledge being alone as fulfilling. I think time alone forfeiting any and all we have made it mean, creates a space to nourish the depth of our being. Give up making being newly single to MEAN you must go out and meet people every free moment. Try on being a person committed to honoring time alone as nourishing and fulfilling creating you as a possibility other's seek to meet! Who I am at 38 and never married is a person fearless to be self expressed solely as a result of time alone.
